Around two years ago we were asked to assist a client who had suffered a large fire in Nottingham. We provided a full detailed schedule with estimated costs and the client was able to negotiate with the relevant parties to reinstate the building. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed a large part of the building which meant that our schedule understandably had to address the water damage caused when the fire brigade tackled this major fire. Indeed, it featured in the local news due to its extent. The detailed information we provide in these situations greatly helps with tackling the aftermath of such incidents.

We have recently been involved in a subsidence claim in Nottingham which started over 28 years ago. The extension to the house was moving due to poor ground. There were a number of issues to resolve and we negotiated successfully with the loss adjuster to demolish and rebuild the extension to the house.The loss adjuster played his part in the project to ensure that works could take place without undue delay. The main house was in satisfactory condition and not affected. Works started in Autumn 2015 and the existing extension was finally demolished. Planning Permission was obtained and the new extension was constructed with a new pitch roof instead of the original flat roof. The Local Authority required this in order for Planning Permission to be permitted. You will see that this makes the property much more pleasing to the eye. I guess the moral of the tale is, if you believe you have an insurance issue, then don't give up. We are here to help you resolve such matters and obtain great job satisfaction from seeing a property being improved or, in some cases, brought back to life.

The second photo shows the reinstatement works in the same room and you can see what a transformation took place! Having to deal with a disaster like this is quite traumatic, particularly when it occurs in your own home. It takes effort and perseverance to make a successful insurance claim when the worst happens - indeed it is not for the faint-hearted. However, this picture shows just what results can be achieved when working towards bringing a property back to life.

The left hand side part of the building at Eden Hall is now a two storey gym. I understand that many years ago the building was in fact a maggot factory. It then became a restaurant prior to its use as a spa. This just shows how differently a building can be utilised over the years. The spa is certainly a welcome development.

We have been instructed to progress flood repairs for a lovely family in the North of England. Note the photograph on the left which shows the flood at the top of the spiral staircase. The photograph on the right shows the staircase after the flood had subsided. The room at the bottom of the spiral staircase is a bedroom which was completely flooded. The bedroom is in fact located in the basement of the property. Reinstatement works are to commence shortly and I will be overseeing them on behalf of the client.

We recently had a mid-week break at Thoresby Hall. We have been there before. This is a very grand listed building which Warner Leisure bought in 1998 and opened in 2000. The refurbishment cost them £21 million and I am amazed at the amount of work they did in this space of time before opening. The Blue Grill Room is beautiful being decorated with wallpaper to match the original and, if you look up, the ceiling is a delight, being painted with gold leaf.

I have recently heard that my client in Derby has settled her insurance claim. Unfortunately, she did not receive the full settlement and had to accept a lower amount which represented around 75% of the value of the claim. This also included a VAT element which left her out of pocket. As mentioned previously, it is always wise to make sure that the insurance contract you take out will provide sufficient cover in the event of a serious loss, such as a flood or fire damage to your property. In addition, it is important to make sure that the fire reinstatement valuation of your property is as accurate and up to date as it can be. Many clients I have dealt with in the last ten years have been under insured, which creates a shortfall even before a claim has been made. For example, people often base the reinstatement value of their house on the price they originally paid for it, which is often incorrect. Consideration needs to be given to demolition costs, professional fees for surveryors and engineers, etc., plus full reinstatement costs of the property itself - all of which need to be taken into account to give a true value of the property. We can help you work out these costs as part of the service that we provide.

We recently went on holiday to Gran Canaria and returned to a hotel we had been to seven years ago. We were told that in the last two years the company had spent 45 million euros on refurbishment.
