The Independent Scrutineers are a Nottingham based, not-for-profit, theatre company which brings together the expertise of professional artists from multiple disciplines. Our mission is to create theatre/performance-arts experiences for children, young people, schools and families, in areas of least engagement. 'Charlie and the Cotton Wool Coat' is our launch performance, in residence at Mansfield Museum, from 20 to 31 January 2014. Supported using funding from Arts Council England. 'Charlie and the Cotton Wool Coat' is the story of a boy who lives with his Polish grandmother, babcia. She lovingly protects him with cotton wool coated advice, however Charlie is six now, he wants to explore more of the great outdoors now. For Key Stage One classes, with enquiring minds, to develop an interest in creative play and exploring the outdoors and different habitats. For all teachers who would like to be inspired by examples of high quality storytelling and social/emotional active learning (SEAL). For all those who speak English or Polish, this is a story featuring both languages with animation, puppetry, shadow-play, music and uniquely featuring local children's voices in English, alongside the voice of the Polish gran.
