Almost full moon behind St Mary’s this Maudy Thursday. Prelude the the Easter weekend which is set to be gorgeous, sunny, clear skied and full mooned. .wayside is right next to the churchyard of@St. Mary’s,famous for its 99 Yew trees and Victorian table top graves. There are lots of secret treasures for the keen eyed wanderer. If you are visiting Painswick this weekend, a walk around the churchyard is a must!

is a 5 mile walk around the Slad valley, home of writer and poet Laurie Lee. Winding through woodlands, open fields, over ancient styles and along the banks of a stream, this is a stunning walk. Along the way you can find poems etched into glass and bound by oak posts. As you read the poem you can simultaneously look through the glass at the landscape which inspired it. Such a wonderful way to spend the day, perhaps finishing off for well earned refreshments , where Lee was himself a regular. All this just a stones through from .wayside

Misty morning over with a promise of sunshine and a gorgeous day ahead. I love my early walks with the dogs, especially on days like this. They really are the best way to start the day. Walking gives me time to think and work through things that are on my mind, to plan and dream. Views like these make it all the more magical.

So that’s a wrap! have closed the doors on our summer season. It’s been an amazing time, with 23 wonderful local artists and makers showing and selling their beautiful products, to locals and visitors. Strong sales for artists and great feedback from customers. New friendships were forged amongst our makers, an unanticipated but fabulous outcome.

Country walks around Painswick are a endlessly wonderful. I am always taken with the big skies and stunning cloudscapes. This photograph captures the view from near Bulls Cross, on a little known and pretty over grown path, looking back towards Painswick as the sun settled. You can pick out the spire at St Mary’s along the horizon, Wayside is right opposite.
My evening walks are the best but of the day both for me and my spaniels.

These wooden panels with glass windows are by the front door where the stone floored hallway leads to the sitting room on one side and kitchen diner on the other side. We wonder if perhaps Wayside was a little shop at one time? The panels are so curious and are mentioned in the grade II listing. This little cottage has lots of secrets!

Love the vintage pine high chair that we found for our youngest guests .wayside Leo (aged 3) who arrived today his seal of approval. He said it was ‘good’. Perfect review.

The entrance hall offers choices, into the kitchen to make a cuppa or reach for a glass of something, then while away some time at the dining table with the papers, into the living room to sit by the fire with a good book or to catch up on a movie or that Netflix series you can’t stop watching, or straight up to relax in one of the super comfy bedrooms. I know I have said it before, but I just love the flagstones here in the hall, they are both the passageway to the house and a bridge to the past. They make me imagine!

Going back we think that may have been a little shop. These panels by the front door are part of the grade 2 listing. They are unusual, made of wood and with little windows in them. Looks like at one time they might have been serving hatches? Any ideas? We had thought of putting bullseye glass into the windows but couldn’t find any big enough! Now I am glad we didn’t as I love the little vistas you get through these windows and the way they bring even more light to the room. This is the writing desk in the sitting room looking through to the dining room/kitchen.
