This morning we had a very windy drive around the island with a stop at the lighthouse with some amazing views, followed by an afternoon sipping cocktails in Little Venice (the coffee isn’t mine 🤪).

It’s been about 11 years since I was last in Mykonos but it has the exact same charm as I remember, making it one of my favourite Greek islands. Today we had a beautiful morning which, after a lovely breakfast at our hotel, we spent exploring the beautiful maze of Mykonos town before stopping off for an amazing lunch at one of the hundreds of restaurants… there is too much choice! We spent the afternoon chilling in our room with private pool and hot tub… it had clouded over so we opted for the hot tub rather than pool! We have hired a jeep for the time we are here… we had a short explore to find a supermarket for some snacks in our room…. Driving here isn’t for the faint hearted but it’s all part of the adventure 😂! We then decided on a meal and drinks in the hotel bar which was fantastic! I have to say the hotel has been amazing… fantastic customer service and amazing quality. Looking forward to tomorrow 😊

We’ve arrived and so far very impressed with our hotel room and what we’ve seen of the hotel. It’s dark but I’m looking forward to seeing the view properly tomorrow - Mykonos town one side and the sea the other. Just turned the hot tub up to give it a try…. It’s a bit chilly for our private pool at night, maybe tomorrow 😊

We’re off on a little trip to Mykonos for a few days! Gatwick airport is busy but bag drop and security was straightforward and quick although I had paid for premium security which was well worth the £5 each as absolutely no queues and straight through to departures 😊. Now waiting to board our plane…. Can’t wait for the sun ☀️ and sea 🌊!

Wow! 2 years ago today travel stopped…. 2 years and 3 days ago on 14 March 2020, we travelled back a day earlier than planned from Las Vegas as the world began to shut down! What a two years it has been but this year looks to be different 😊. This summer we’ll be travelling back to America, this time with the children, to show them the sights we were lucky enough to visit two years ago.

What trips have you missed over the last two years and where do you plan to go now travel is getting easier?

March 17th 2020 was the day that the travel industry went into systematic meltdown as the government advised against all non-essential travel - halting the income of millions of people in the UK.

It was an event that no-one expected and no-one believed would happen. Within days, airports around the UK and the world lay silent, but never busier with parked planes.

Next to our offices, at Bournemouth Airport British Airways had planes worth hundreds of millions of pounds with their wheels chocked and engines covered, not knowing when they would fly again.

We were an industry with a refund rate of less than 1%. Overnight this soared to a 99% cancellation rate. As an industry we simply weren’t geared up to cope.

Over the last two years, travel has lost a lot of good people as they left the industry to work in other sectors. A lot of that expertise and experience may never return.

A majority of tour operators and airlines took advantage of the furlough scheme (for survival) which meant it became difficult for those which were left to deal with refunds and rebooking's as there was no-one to talk to.

The travel industry was like a restaurant, which didn’t just shut its doors and furloughed staff, it had to keep all its staff working, having no income from new sales AND having to refund every meal you’d served for the last year.

The industry was continually hit with new rule changes which always seemed to be announced by the government during the evening or at the weekend, when staff have gone home.

The industry is now seeing or about to see the biggest comeback ever as more and more customers want to travel. This is an exciting time to be in travel. Customers have never been happier, the industry is booming.

And two years on - where are we now?

The elastic band has been pulled back for two years and has now been released. We continue to break records most days. Not Just Travel’s sales were up in February 2022 by 230% compared to the same month in 2021, 433% up on 2020 and 193% up on 2019.

Over 85% of bookings are now for this year because people want to travel, yet at the same time, we’ve never had so many advance bookings as clients plan ahead. Travellers are eager and excited to be planning and being able to travel again. Average booking values have increased by over £1000 compared to pre-pandemic bookings. As a result, we’re expanding our team and have committed over £1m of extra money to recruitment.

And how to celebrate this bittersweet anniversary? Rejoice in this week’s news that all travel restrictions / rules are being removed and facemasks are no longer required in many travel hubs. We have proven our resilience through the darkest of times. Now let's celebrate our brighter future.

New Zealand has brought forward plans to reopen its borders. It's been a long two years.

Fully vaccinated travellers from about 60 countries on a visa-waiver list will be able to arrive from 2 May. Those nations include the UK and US.

All arrivals will have to show a negative Covid test.

Now New Zealand is set to re-open it's time to discover all it has to offer.

Great news! As of 4am on Friday 18 March all remaining Covid travel restrictions for UK arrivals, including the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) will be stood down.
This means travel gets easier and in time for the Easter Holidays and the Summer just around the corner.
Now has never been a better time to book and travel.

✈️ Jamaica has dropped all travel-related quarantine measures, international travellers will no longer need to obtain travel authorisation but those 12 and over will still need a negative test result within 72 hours prior to departure

✈️ Sri Lanka drops pre-departure tests for fully-vaccinated from today

✈️ Tunisia lifts all covid restrictions for under 18s

✈️ Barbados will now accept rapid antigen tests for entry administered by a healthcare provider no more than 24 hours prior to arrival, PCR tests are also still accepted

✈️ Italy is set to scrap pre-departure tests for fully vaccinated visitors arriving from outside of the EU

✈️ Aer Lingus restarts San Francisco flights from Dublin
