π Anxiety & the Blood Sugar Rollercoaster π
π° Eating highly refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, pasta, biscuits and cakes, will cause a significant rise in your blood sugar. This rise triggers the release of insulin, which encourages your cells to absorb the glucose to use as energy, or to store it as fat, and your blood sugar levels then plummet.
π¨ Continuing to eat highly refined carbohydrate meals and snacks, results in repeated spikes and dips in your blood sugar levels, and this is commonly referred to as the blood sugar rollercoaster. Being in this state depletes your energy and can result in mood swings, anxiety and sugar cravings. π
π There are simple dietary changes that you can make, which will help your child avoid this rollercoaster - supporting an improved mood & better energy levels throughout the day.
π₯ Ensuring they eat a palm-sized portion of protein such as; eggs, fish, yoghurt, beans or lentils with each meal - alongside sources of complex carbohydrates like brown rice, wholemeal bread, oats, sweet potatoes & cauliflower, will ensure their glucose levels are more balanced throughout the day, leaving their mood more stable.
π₯ Including small amounts of healthy fats, like; oily fish, nuts & seeds, avocados, coconut & olives is also beneficial too.
