I never new this was on our doorstep. The drinking dinosaur at Flamborough. It was brought to my attention by a couple who have traveled 1000 miles to see it. Perhaps I need to get out more . I am sure many of you will already have visited this.

Standing proudly along the dramatic Yorkshire coastline, the Drinking Dinosaur at Flamborough Head isn't your typical prehistoric relic. This magnificent natural rock formation, sculpted by centuries of wind and waves, captures the imagination with its uncanny resemblance to a long-necked dinosaur taking a refreshing gulp from the sea.

But beyond its whimsical name, the Drinking Dinosaur holds a wealth of geological intrigue and natural beauty, making it a must-see for visitors exploring England's rugged east coast.

From Rock to Reptile:

The dinosaur's form is the result of millions of years of erosion. Layers of chalk and softer rock have been worn away, leaving behind the harder chalk that forms the dinosaur's distinctive head, neck, and body. The "drinking" action is an illusion created by a natural archway at the base, where water surges through during high tides.

A Timeless Sentinel:

Geologists estimate the rock formations at Flamborough Head, including the Drinking Dinosaur, to be around 130 million years old, dating back to the Cretaceous period. This means the very rock you're gazing at may have witnessed dinosaurs roam the Earth!

A Haven for Wildlife:

Flamborough Head is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 400 species recorded here. The cliffs provide nesting grounds for guillemots, razorbills, and puffins, offering a captivating spectacle for nature lovers. Keep your eyes peeled for seals basking on the rocks below, too!

More Than Just a Dinosaur:

While the Drinking Dinosaur is the star attraction, Flamborough Head has much more to offer. Explore the dramatic cliff walks, marvel at the lighthouse perched on the headland, or delve into the fascinating maritime history at the Flamborough Head Maritime Museum.

Planning Your Visit:

The Drinking Dinosaur is easily accessible from the Flamborough Head car park, with a short walk offering stunning views along the way. Remember to wear sturdy shoes and be mindful of uneven terrain and cliff edges. The best time to visit depends on your preference. Sunrise paints the dinosaur in a magical golden light, while sunsets offer a dramatic backdrop.

The Drinking Dinosaur is more than just a quirky rock formation. It's a testament to the power of nature, a window into the Earth's deep history, and a stunning reminder of the beauty and diversity of our planet. So, on your next Yorkshire adventure, be sure to pay homage to this prehistoric icon and witness the magic where myth meets nature.

For all those who like WiFi we have just completed a major investment in speeding up our WiFi which is always difficult in a rural area. We now super fast fibre to the property have over 900 Mbps into the site .We have also changed a lot of the hardware to distribute it around the site. This should result in less buffering and a happier experience .
