There are so many things to do in and around Richmond… and Castle & Cobbles still has some time available in August (11th to 25th)

Featuring objects ranging from silk escape maps and tiny compasses concealed in buttons, to prison camp plans and prisoner’s artwork, our Great Escapes exhibition also focuses on Green Howards soldiers who escaped from their Prisoner of War camps during the Second World War.

Visit us Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4.30pm, to see more about these thrilling stories.

If the trees hadn’t been quite as green he’d have painted Castle & Cobbles…

A painting donated by Rishi Sunak will go under the hammer this month to raise funds for The Station.

The painting of Richmond Castle will be included in Elstob Auctioneers’ Fine Art & Antiques Sale on Saturday 17th June 2023 and members of the public will have the chance to bid at the sale in person or online.

Depicting the town’s iconic castle high above the River Swale, the oil painting is the work of the award-winning contemporary landscape painter Alice Boggis-Rolfe. It carries a price estimate of £1,800 - £2,200 and the auction house is hoping that the painting will attract a lot of local and national interest.

The painting was originally given to the Richmond MP by Broadcaster Sky to mark the Sky Arts channel becoming free-to-view. With Sky’s blessing, the Prime Minister decided to donate the painting to The Station, which is housed in the town’s former Victorian Railway Station and incorporates a 3-screen cinema, gallery space, café bar and retail outlets.

The work was displayed earlier this year in The Station Gallery’s Spot on the Wall Exhibition – the largest open art exhibition in Richmond.

Wonderful review of Castle & Cobbles received today ...

"Castles and Cobbles is an excellent cottage in the heart of Richmond. Mark and Emma have thought of everything that you may need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay (including Milk, Cake, and Wine waiting for us on arrival - Many thanks 😃) A very short walk takes you into the market square where there are may pubs and eateries for an evening meal after a good day of walking. We can heartily recommend Rustique Restaurant which was so good we went twice. Would definitely stay here again 😃"

We're getting pretty booked up for 2021 - that's not surprising, but why not book yourself something to look forward to in 2022?

I went looking for pictures of Richmond this morning ... I love aerial shots that show Castle & Cobbles ... I'm thinking this is a while ago, based on the planting in the back garden of the cottage being far less grown ... and WH Smith appears not to be WH Smith!

Seeing this photo made me laugh ... from the opposite direction, the photo would have the wood burner and our Brittany spaniel in front of it. I nipped into the kitchen for something and came back in 20 seconds later to see that an entire wedge of cheese had been gobbled! Well it's how we first bonded with him ... over and our love for cheese!

We’re back!

When Emma left London she bought this quirky but beautiful cottage in Richmond … views to the front, and literally the castle wall at the end of the garden! And yes, she thought she’d grow old there. But then along came Mark, and a growing brood and the cottage wasn’t going to be big enough!

Roll on 9 years and lots of good fortune and the cottage was back on the market, and would make a wonderful retirement property! But in the meantime we thought we’d like to have our old place in Richmond back. We love it … we hope you do too.

It sleeps up to 6, has one bathroom, eating areas indoors and out.

And if you go to the top of the garden you have a few over the house and up Swaledale …
