Steve Dent – the home of horses & carriages supplied to the film & television industry We also provide skilled drivers, footmen, grooms and actors.

Steve Dent along with his wife and four children run an unmatched international business with over 30 year’s experience as stunt coordinators and horse masters for both film and TV industry. Steve has worked on over 350 projects such as Gladiator, Robin Hood, Sleepy Hollow, Spy Game, Captain America, Snow White; The Huntsman and War Horse, to name a few. We are currently located 15 minutes from Pi

newood studios and 25 minutes from Shepperton studios. Steve provides full stunt equipment and rigging packages from high falls to full fire work, actor flying and all wire work. Steve is a full member of the JISC UK stunt register, has full Public liability insurance tailored for Film and TV work. We cover the all the elements of cast and actor training, from horse riding and driving through to sword fighting and wire work. Steve has over 80 highly trained and disciplined horses in variety of breeds for actors, liberty work, riding and driving, for all sequences from street scenes to large scale battle scenes. Steve has one of the largest collection carriages in Europe, in excess of 200 horse drawn vehicles. All of the carriages come with our highly trained and experienced horses to match whether it’s single, pairs, teams, six-in-hand.

We're excited to share a touching story from Jonathan Bailey (Lord Anthony in Bridgerton) on working with our horse Jack on the upcoming film "Wicked".

"I went round to see Jon Chu before we started filming and I said to him, 'I think I know who the horse is.' He was like, 'What do you mean?' And I was like, 'It's Jack, the horse that I had ridden in Bridgerton, who I had an amazing relationship with.' People say don't work with kids and animals but if it's Jack, I'd say take the job. He's a legend."

Hearing Jonathan speak so fondly of Jack highlights the incredible bonds that form on set. It's been a privilege to witness their partnership bring authenticity and heart to both productions.

Our work on "Great Expectations" (2012) brought us to the picturesque locations of Somerset, where the historic architecture provided an ideal backdrop for our period carriage sequences. The well-preserved streets and surrounding countryside allowed for authentic 19th-century riding scenes, enhancing the production's visual authenticity.

The established working relationship with local teams and familiarity with Somerset's historic locations enabled smooth ex*****on of both day and night sequences throughout filming.

Can't believe it's been 10 years since we worked on "Fury" with Brad Pitt! Our horses helped bring authenticity to this gritty WWII drama, performing admirably alongside the tanks. A truly iconic film.

Throwback to our haunting experience on Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow"!
From misty forests to moonlit chases, our equine team brought the legend to life. Preparing the Headless Horseman's steed was a highlight - combining practical horsemanship with Burton's gothic vision.
Working with Johnny Depp to perfect Ichabod Crane's awkward relationship with horses added a touch of comedy to our ghostly adventure.

Our journey with "Outlander" has taken us through time, from 18th-century Scotland to Revolutionary America, presenting unique challenges for our equine team.

Adapting to diverse historical periods required meticulous attention to detail. We've sourced and trained horses that could convincingly portray everything from Highland ponies to colonial warhorses, paying close attention to breed characteristics and historical accuracy.

Scotland's rugged terrain and unpredictable weather put our team's skills to the test. From misty moors to dense forests, we've ensured our horses perform safely and effectively in challenging conditions, contributing to the show's stunning visuals.

A flash black to Ridley Scott's classic "Kingdom of Heaven" transported us to the time of the Crusades, presenting unique challenges for our equine team.

Large-scale battle scenes required numerous horses trained to remain calm and responsive amidst the chaos of medieval warfare recreations. To enhance authenticity in both dramatic and action sequences, we worked closely with the cast, including Orlando Bloom, honing their riding skills for 12th-century mounted combat.

Achieving historical accuracy demanded extensive collaboration between the SDS team and the costume and props departments, particularly in recreating period-appropriate tack.

Working on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson, was an unforgettable experience. We were impressed by Disney's meticulous approach, ensuring that our horses were given the utmost care and attention. Their commitment to both the film's enchantment and the well-being of our equine stars made the project truly special.

What stood out was Emma Watson's dedication to her role. She invested significant time in riding lessons to build a strong connection with Rusty, her equine co-star, and to improve her riding skills. This commitment not only enhanced her performance but also contributed to the authenticity of the scenes involving horseback riding.

A throwback to our work on Ben-Hur, where Horse Master Steve Dent played a pivotal role. Dent pulled both Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell aside early on, offering training so that could drive the horses (Twiglet, Sevilla, Protos & Torerro) and be a part of the action. This led to three months of intense chariot-driving training and another three months capturing the thrilling racing sequences. It was an extraordinary journey, showcasing the dedication and skill of everyone involved.

A flashback to our role in the film “Robin Hood”, starring Russell Crowe. This classic film really demonstrated how real horses and stunts add to a films production.
It's heartwarming to remember how actors like Crowe treat these amazing animals. He fondly recalled, “There’s a horse named George who I gave the speech in the forest in Gladiator on. Years later, he was on the set of Robin Hood and we would chat every day.” He also mentioned, “Sam with the white horse Rusty in Robin Hood – we chatted again on Les Mis. Lifelong friends.”

Looking back to 2023, when we partnered with Disney to bring the magic of "The Little Mermaid" to life starring Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King! Our team journeyed to the stunning landscapes of Sardinia, Italy, with our amazing equine actors.

We worked with some fantastic local companies - Luis Miguel Arranz (Madrid)
Vittorio Nencini (Rome) - to overcome the challenges of working abroad to create something truly special.

- Male competent riders for ad hoc filming work in costume. Must be regularly riding to a good standard

- Male competent carriage drivers for filming work in costume.

- Ad Hoc grooms for filming work

- Class 2 Lorry Drivers with CPC and equine transport experience for 18tonne lorries

All work is on an ad hoc basis and a good level of flexibility around scheduling is required.
