Something a bit different this week.

A couple approached me who returned from holiday and found a pipe had leaked through their artex ceiling.

Now artex not usually my thing but they just wanted their ceiling repaired rather than totally re plastering.

Phase 1. Setting up, planning and adding the sub structure.

Did you know, squashing your loft insulation with boxes and boards could double your heat loss?

In the past, if people wanted to use their loft for storage, then they just laid boards on top of the joists. But that doesn’t make sense any more, because loft insulation keeps heating bills down and you’re meant to have at least 300mm (11”) of it – which means it’s higher than your joists.

And squashing insulation halves its effectiveness, since it works by trapping air and being fluffy. It also causes condensation to get trapped and cause damp spots if you don’t have space for air to flow.

We are currently living in a rented property that has this type of insulation and we need to store things like suitcases, Christmas decorations and family memories without reducing the energy efficiency rating on the rental. Our landlord has given us permission to board out a section of our loft for storage and this is our journey.

I’m using LoftZone’s StoreFloor raised loft boarding system which is advertised as simply the fastest, easiest and strongest way to board above the full depth of insulation in homes, new and old.

As a Carpenter I was eager to test out this system on an old house with lets just say very demanding uneven rafters and roof joists.

Wiring and plumbing replaced just over 2 years ago causing many obstacles.

This system has the necessary BBA-approval to not affect a house’s warranty, so made it a no-brainer.

🙏🏻 we save money on heating bills as the system isn’t cheap. Plus we have a room full of stuff ready to store.

Watch this space for the rest of the project. Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest 🤣 but hey ho the wife wants it sorted.

Doors doors and more doors. These oak doors look stunning and it was a please to fit them as part of a whole house makeover which included

Hanging 13 oak doors with silver furniture, plastering walls and ceilings and replacing skirting. Looking forward to popping back to this job to see the end result after the customer has decorated.

Have been waiting for this day since I bought my van. I’ve had my Van from new and was delivered on my birthday 9 years ago. Ever since I have always wanted my own number plate.
