Hi, my name is Andrea and I look forward to becoming your Personal Travel Counsellor. I have worked in the travel industry for over 25 years and absolutely love my job! I love finding the perfect holiday for my clients, advising on every aspect and making recommendations based on my extensive knowledge. 16 years I have worked from home so that I can be available at a time that suits my clients including evenings and weekends and can also fit in with family life. I love going on holiday and have visited many interesting places that I love sharing feedback and recommendations from. Tailor-made itineraries around the USA and Canada, The Far East and South America have become a more recent speciality and something I'm enjoying immensely as the demand for these types of holidays grows. Disney holidays are another passion of mine and I have lots of hints and tips to make sure you get the most out of your experience. Over the years I have organised many holidays for large groups all over the world. My largest group was for 180 Rock n Roll enthusiasts flying from 6 different airports to an event in Tenerife! Earlier this year, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Rotterdam. What an incredible city! While Amsterdam often steals the spotlight for Dutch city breaks, Rotterdam, the Netherlands' second city, offers a compelling alternative. Just as easy to reach, you can arrive at its iconic station in just three and a half hours from London on the Eurostarโ€”30 minutes faster than Amsterdamโ€”and immediately feel a different atmosphere. Itโ€™s also only a 90-minute flight from Manchester!

Rotterdam is not significantly smaller than Amsterdam, but it boasts a much more youthful appearance due to its reconstruction after extensive bombing during WWII. Leaving London in the morning on the Eurostar, youโ€™ll change trains at Paris and head to Zurich, where one more quick change will see you on board your last rail service of the day, which will skirt Lake Zurich and its beautiful lake-side homes, along past Lake Wellensee and into the Alps to spend the night in the pretty and ancient city of Chur; tiny streets and a dramatic backdrop form your home for the evening.

Today you will enjoy a full length rail journey on the Bernina Express. Leaving Chur you are surrounded on all sides by gentle slopes peppered with castles. Not content with boasting some of the most glorious scenery the world of rail has to offer, from Thusis onwards the Bernina Express travels along the Albula and Bernina Lines; two masterpieces of engineering. Both completed in the early 1900s, each railway line has UNESCO World Heritage status, successfully and inconspicuously blending the practicality of rail travel into the surrounding awe-inspiring backdrop. Youโ€™ll cross the world-famous Landwasser viaduct, an undoubted highlight of the journey towards St. Moritz, from where the train glides on the Bernina Railway through the Bernina Pass. Before the train starts its descent to the palm trees and warmer climate of Italy, it first climbs to the highest point on the journey at 2328m, to skirt the edge of the turquoise Lago Bianco (White Lake) and takes a moment to pause in front of the glacier at Alp Grรผm. Then, a meander down towards verdant Italy, over the viaduct at Brusio, affording some great opportunities for some photographs of the train as it winds around the 360-degree spiral. There is plenty of time to admire more incredible views as you arrive into Italy - youโ€™ll be there just in time for lunch! Youโ€™ll then take a connecting train journey on to Lake Garda, via Milan. Make your way to your hotel in Desenzano del Garda (if you prefer to stay in a different resort, please ask for details) where you will stay for the next seven nights.

We had a fantastic weekend on Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady from Portsmouth to Amsterdam. It was only a 4-night trip so we didn't manage to fit everything in but still had an amazing time! Full review coming soon...

The first stop was just a short walk from where our cruise ship was docked. Amsterdam is a beautiful city and the day was a perfect 24 degrees and sunny.
