Fancy a day trip? 🚙

Just 45 minutes by car from the Haven, Stirling is a town steeped in Scottish History. Enjoy a trip to the Wallace Monunent and Stirling Castle.

Stirling’s famous landmark, the Wallace Moniment stands 67 meters high above the fields where William Wallace led his troops to victory at The Battle of Stirling Bridge. Here you will learn the story of the patriot and martyr who became Scotland’s National Hero.

Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland. Looking over the high stone walls you can see the battlefields of Stirling Bridge where historic armies fought to decide the fate of nations. This castle was home to generations of Scottish monarchs including, Mary Queen of Scots.

On your return, don’t forgot to stop in the pretty spa village Bridge of Allan. Enjoy a chippy tea from the Allanwater Cafe, best eaten down on the banks of the River Allan.

This year’s Comrie Fortnight will be held from 22nd July-5th August - there will be lots going on for adults and kids alike.

An annual two-week festival, called the Comrie Fortnight, is held in the village during July and August. The Comrie Fortnight started in the late 1960s and has evolved over the years, now consisting of a wide range of activities including competitions, outings, dances and a float parade. Profits from the Comrie Fortnight are used to support events and groups in the local community.

Anyone wondering about the layout of the Haven?

When you enter the front door into the foyer there is a large open plan living room, dining area and kitchen. Taking a few stairs up you reach a hallway where the side door lies with outdoor decking area. Off the back hall is a utility room, a bathroom and a large double bedroom. On the first floor the hallway takes you to a shower room and two further bedrooms. One room is a large double and the second is a room with three single beds and an extra single that pulls out if required.

This is the old railway station situated in the village of Lochearnhead. It opened in 1904 as part of the Comrie, St Fillans & Lochearnhead Railway, but closed in 1951. Since 1962, the station has been used as a Scout centre for youth adventurous activities. It’s a lovely old building that can be found when walking along what is known to locals as the ’back track’ from behind the village and out in the direction of Glen Ogil.

Glen Ogle Viaduct.

Glen Ogle extends 7 miles north westwards from Lochearnhead to Lix Toll, where it opens into Glen Dochart. It is possible to walk through the glen on a footpath that follows the course of the former Callander and Oban Railway to the summit of the glen and Killin Junction. The route uses the Category B listed 150-yard (140 m) long Glen Ogle viaduct, built between 1866 and 1870. The original design was for 20 arches, but the bridge was built with 12 stone arches.

Glen Ogle viaduct can be seen from the A85. The military road, which can be seen from the modern road, was built in 1749 by Major William Caulfeild. It was used by the British Army in its efforts to pacify the Highlands after the Jacobite rising of 1745.
