CORSICA 🍇🥩🥖 has been our port of call to replace Marina de Carrera & what a delight it was.
We stopped at the port of Ajaccio which is the capital of Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s also the birthplace and childhood home of the French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte.
Despite being the closest Mediterranean island to the UK, Corsica remains relatively unknown to British holidaymakers, which is a shame given the sublime mix of astonishing and unexpected scenery, the breath-taking beaches, and of course the thriving culture.
Fun Fact: Corsica is known as the “Island of Beauty” due to its stunning landscapes, including mountains, forests, and pristine beaches. 🌴
A group of us jumped on the Le Petite Train as this is the fastest way to see all the key places. I saw the Sanguine Islands, a number of beautiful beaches, the Statue of Modesty, the Citadel, Foch Square, Napoleon Cave amongst many more places. Back to Scarlett Lady for a cocktail or 2 on deck whilst the sun went down and then it was time to get ready for Scarlet Night ❤️

🇮🇹 Next stop Civitaveccia which is a cute coastal town to spend a day or two exploring for an authentic Italian experience but as we only had the day here so I decided today was about the culture and I went off to Rome, which is just over an hour away.
I have never been to Rome before so decided to be a proper tourist and took a guided walking tour to some of Rome’s top highlights: Castel Sant’Angelo - a former fortress, prison & papal palace that houses Roman Emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum, passed Bernini’s Fountain of Four Rivers, visited the Trinita dei Monti Church, the Pantheon (one of the most famous buildings in Rome), Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain where I made my wish 💭
We meandered around the gorgeous streets & Piazzas, including Piazza Navona and Del Popolo & saw other landmarks like The Colasseum, Arch of Constantine.
The only negative was many of the key landmarks were undergoing restoration to get ready for the jubilee next year, so had scaffolding or netting around but I did manage some photos.
18,000 steps later, we had the obligatory Aperol Spritz and pasta 🍝 When in Rome!!!!

🇫🇷 Toulon is our port of call today, a city on the French Riviera, famous for its 1793 siege, and a large port on the Mediterranean coast, with a major naval base.
It is lined with sandy beaches and shingle coves. It’s harbour is home to submarines and warships, as well as fishing boats and ferries.
The grand Musée National de la Marine in the Port of Toulon exhibits maritime artifacts. Rugged limestone mountains form a backdrop to the city, and a cable car shuttles visitors up Mont Faron.
It is most famous for its old town, its coastal setting, and its popularity with local vacationers. The port city is very popular for its shopping. It is also known for its great museums & sights, food, nightlife, and beaches. It is often described as authentic, off-the-beaten-path, real world, and industrial.
It was a cloudy day for us today, so nice to mooch without it being too hot.
