New parking sign to guide our guests to their designated parking space.

Whilst we provide comprehensive instructions on how to find us, we listened to feedback from those who found it more challenging to find Wainwright's Rest so we are working on some new signage.

Wainwright's Rest, Shap has opened for 2025 dates from Feb through May - most dates allowing 1night stays. June onwards will open in the next few weeks though please reach out if you have specific dates and we will do our best to accommodate.

Sleeps 2, double bed, basic self service breakfast (upgrades available), kitchenette, sofa, ensuite shower room, balcony, private access/entrance. 100m from C2C route, Shap Chippy and Co-op right in the centre of Shap.

A fave for 2024 C2C walkers, cyclists, Scotland travellers and Lake District adventurers and we look forward to welcoming 2025 guests soon!

The summer sun creeps in lovely through the bedroom window! It's the same on the balcony too - the perfect place to enjoy a cold drink!

I love seeing our space looking it's best and ready to welcome our lovely guests ❤️

Sunny summer evening at Shap Abbey! A landmark on the Coast to Coast route and means you are in the last mile to Shap! And close to your well deserved stop at Wainwright's Rest!

We enjoyed a lovely evening wander down on our bikes - so perfect!

Recent wandering and exploring near Sedbergh for a summer evening swim! We love scouting out wild swimming spots for our adventures with friends!

Also impressed by the engineering of this own viaduct - only a shame it's no longer in service.

Excited to wake up this morning to find that we have promoted to SUPERHOST status on !

We are very proud to have gained this recognition from Airbnb and our guests, as we have worked so so hard this last 6months to make sure we offer the best we can for our guests 😅

Thanks to everyone that has stayed and booked with us since we opened! And we can't wait to welcome lots more guests too 😄 ❤️

We ventured for an evening walk from to Oddendale and picked up part of the Coast to Coast route past Shapfell Quarry.

A lovely route with great info boards explaining about the local history and industry.

We didn't see any other walkers but it was great to know that after our guests leave us to continue their adventures, this is one of their next stops - and a cool place at that!

It's been a super wet day today in Shap and we are glad to welcome a last minute, need-a-break-from-the-rain Coast to Coast guest tonight!

Well done to everyone braving the downpours today!

Tomorrow (Thursday 23rd) has also forecast some more soggy weather so anyone coming into Shap and is looking for somewhere to stay to take a rain break... we currently have availability at Wainwright's Rest, Shap tomorrow night. Warm, cosy, hot shower, breakfast, kitchenette and space to dry your kit out!

Today we have been out exploring in the with a fantastic walk to Black Force. Just 20mins (then 1hr walk) from !

A beautiful weekend that we have been enjoying making the most of! As have our guests - it's been a busy few days with lots of guests including Coast to Coasters, enroute to Scotland travellers and spontaneous 'let's make a weekend of it' Lake District adventurers!

Spotted this cool finger post whilst on a walk through Shap today! The Coast to Coast route is well signposted throughout the village to send our guests easily on their way after staying with us.

It's been a busy couple of weeks at with lots of Coast to Coast walkers coming through.

The weather has been (mostly) kind in recent days, though lots of our guests say how much they appreciate the welcoming space to relax, unwind and chill but also the space sort and dry their kit ready for their next day of adventuring!

Everything set up to make your stay as comfortable as possible - whether thru-hiking, exploring, visiting, working or just a stop over en route to Scotland - we have you covered!

Recently updated the stock of the fabulous Visit Shap leaflets from ! They contain super useful information about the village and the surrounding area including history and local amenities.

The info corner in Wainwright's Rest is chocka with local information and leaflets to help make the most of your stay. Plus your Hosts Emma & George can help you with adventure ideas or local info - just ask 😀

Atmospheric morning today in Shap thanks to the mist as I ran past the Goggleby Stone.

Looking forward to the sun burning through the mist today (I hope 🤞)

The Goggleby Stone is a 2.3m high standing stone that was part of the Shap processional stone avenue dating back to the Bronze Age. It's a much loved landmark in the village and an impressive sight!

Gorgeous day on the balcony this afternoon - breezy but the wall provides a great bit of shelter! We have been setting up the outside furniture ready for our next round of guests so they can enjoy a drink while soaking in the view and the lovely spring flowers 💐

We provide the supplies you need to prepare hot drinks and breakfast in your own kitchenette at a time that suits you - whether that's an early one to get on the trail at sunrise or a late one after a snuggly lie in - its up to you!
