😍It's the 1940s event next weekend in Sheringham! Such a brilliant weekend to visit the railway stations along the Poppyline 🚂 at Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt, with lots of events also happening in the towns too (follow the link for the programme). Great atmosphere with lots to enjoy. People watching all those dressed up in 1940s clothes and looking at all the vehicles is an event in itself. You could dress up and join in the fun yourself!🫡

What a wonderful season it has been at Woodforde's Cottage with some fabulous guests, but even as the days start to draw in a little there is still time to enjoy the last of the summer in Sheringham, with September often being a mild and sunny month of the year. Sheringham and Cromer have a friendly rivalry and if you ask anyone who lives in Norfolk, they will always have a preference for one or the other. Both small towns are within a few miles of one another and Cromer makes a great destination if you walk the Coastal Path from Sheringham and vice versa. I think Sheringham has a lot more to offer personally with the Poppyline railway, Sheringham Park, fabulous walking, and quaint town, but it hasn't got a pier like Cromer! So my recommendation is always, stay at Sheringham and visit Cromer!

Get Potty this weekend…

Potty Festival, Sheringham 6th & 7th July 2024.

The Potty Festival is THE place to be for Morris dancing and folk music in Norfolk this weekend. It takes place in early July every year, and has been attracting large numbers of dancers, musicians, residents and tourists since it was started by the Lobster Potties Morris dancers in 1993.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary in 2018, they decided to have a go at the Guinness World Record for the largest number of dancers all doing the same dance at the same time. Everything was meticulously planned and the attempt took place on the Saturday morning of the Festival.

On the 17th September 2018, it was confirmed by Guinness that the Potty Festival, with the help of 369 Morris Dancers from 33 sides, had set a new world record for the Largest Morris Dance!

What a stunning part of the world...the North Norfolk coast has so much to offer: traditional seaside...avoiding the crowds on the long sandy beaches, nature reserves with bird life galore, a beautiful interior following pretty country lanes, gorgeous Georgian towns to explore and vintage steam railways. Great place to eat when staying at Woodforde's Cottage!

We hope everybody is finally enjoying the sunny weather we’ve all been waiting for! ☀️

We do get booked up quickly inside the restaurant and we can only do a limited number of walk ins for our outside area! If we are too busy then there is our crab hut in the car park for takeaway seafood. 🦞🦀

The beautiful poppy fields to be found in Norfolk at this time of year.
Poppyland’ stretches around the the Norfolk coast and takes in Sheringham, Cromer, Overstrand, Sidestrand and Mundesley. The creation of late 19th Century theatre critic and poet Clement Scott, ‘Poppyland’ came to embody an area of quiet, rural, fishing backwaters until the railway came and the Victorian tourists discovered its beauty. The Poppyline steam train still runs between the lovely georgian town of Holt and Sheringham where Woodforde's Cottage is situated.
