I make sail bags from used sails that have been sailing on the sea. I recycle the sails and make unique bags depending on the type of boat, its sail colour and design, and each bag will have a sailcloth flag giving details of the boat it was sailed on. Please understand that all the sails I use have been sailing - cruising/racing/hoisted in light and heavy winds and sprayed with salt water and, a
s such, there could be the odd mark as a reminder of its previous life...
Each one will have internal and external pocket(s) and will be lined with either recycled spinnakers or polycotton (if spinny fabric is scarce!). The sails I use come from various sources, I've even been known to raid skips - waste not want not!! I charge for my time and effort into making each individual bag - also I buy new webbing/straps for the handles/rucksack straps and clips/linings etc. I also buy used sails especially if coloured and/or has good detailing - it doesn't all come out of skips unfortunately!!
