You don’t have to be a designer to know when design isn’t working.

Artworking is where our journey began. As the ‘Artworkers Alliance’, it’s the foundation on which our business was built. While we’ve grown and evolved into Alliance Creative, offering a wide range of services, artwork remains a core part of who we are.

It’s why so many clients and top agencies across the country look to us for our expertise, and why we’re proud to share our knowledge with you.

Artwork – what does this actually mean in the design and marketing world?

We’ve often noticed the term ‘artwork’ being used for design briefs and vice versa, so hopefully we can bust a few myths and clarify what the term means to us, and our clients.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but in general, designers tend not to make the best artworkers, and artworkers not the best designers. At the Alliance, it’s all about appointing the best skilled person to fulfil a brief, and let those specialists shine in their particular discipline.

Our designers conceptualise communications either for digital or print media, then when our clients are happy, they hand the job over to an artworker to fine-tune the creative output, ready to hit the outside world. That’s the simplistic overview of how it works.

So why have two roles we hear you ask? It’s because our artworkers have many years of experience in digital and print media, they have a broad skill-base that is different from a designer. When it comes to streamlining workflow for long documents like annual reports, creating high quality graphics, understanding printing processes, spotting and fixing typographic errors and keeping your comms on-brand, it’s a highly technical and detail-focussed job than most appreciate.

What better way to start the week, nay, a new month, than by launching our revamped website.

So why the change? Well, sometimes you need to take a good long look in the mirror. Were we really clear about who we are and how we add value? Did we really shout about all the great work we provide for our clients and the wider creative industry? In short, not particularly well?

It’s never an easy task to be so self-critical, but it’s an essential process to stay visible and relevant, especially in the current economic climate.

With a rich heritage dating back to 1919 and a lineage of rugby greats, it has produced 21 Scottish international caps, 3 British and Irish Lions and an international referee. Boroughmuir's identity needed to shine at its community-shared venue. Steve’s mission? Reinforce the 'Muir' essence and celebrate the club's storied past to inspire future generations.
