Rock And Roll Children

Rock And Roll Children Rock and Roll Children is the story of four metalheads in the 1980s. It is a hard hitting account of music and life from that decade.

It’s the 1980s and heavy metal music has exploded across America and Frankie, Bob, Rick and
Jeff are caught up in it. From Dio to Twisted Sister, these metal heads hit up every concert they
can. Attending college in different states, and even countries, heavy metal music is what brings
these four best friends back together summer after summer. But with the middle of the 1980s
begins the “intoleran

ce” of heavy metal music. Girlfriends, yuppies and Jesus freaks want to put
an end to the heavy metal scene just as artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Aerosmith are playing
their greatest hits! Cracks begin emerging in their friendship while everyone is trying to make
their own way in the world, especially when Jeff’s travels lead him to England. Will heavy metal
all-stars like Ted Nugent, Anthrax and Judas Priest bring these four friends back together? Or are
their partying days long over?

This live album from Motorhead came to my attention whilst going through the Motorhead discography on Wikipedia. It provided no information on the album as there was no link but after doing a bit of digging and listening to the album, I am able to write about it. First of all, "Blitzkrieg on Birmingham 77" was from the personal archive of Fast Eddie Clark but there have been several versions of it and I'm not sure which one I'm listening to....

After two very good EPs, Acid Reign finally got to put out a full album in "The Fear." Cutting right to the chase, the result was well worth the wait as "The Fear" is a full on thrash party. Acid Reign show they have a bit of a sense of humour with the twenty-seven second long opening track, "You Never Know." My theory here that this was an outtake which they decided to keep in....

Acid Reign put out another EP in 1989 before making their first debut album. With "Humanoia," you get the title track with live recordings of the other four tracks. Still, it's a fifteen minute blast of pure thrash metal, short but to the point. Things begin with the title track with a drum intro from Mark Ramsey before the band comes joins in the mayhem....

Boy, I'm glad I went back and re-read my posts on Overkill's two albums prior to the 1989, "The Years of Decay" because both albums seemed to have been molded together to make this one. On the previous album, "Under the Influence," I referred to said album as 'thrash as thrash was meant to be' but on the album before that one, "Taking Over," I sited the more progressive metal side....

First, let me provide and update on the tragic incident which led me to post about the debut album from Badlands. I am very pleased to say that Jake E. Lee, who was senselessly shot while out walking his dog three days ago, is expected to make a full recovery. Let's hope he does. In a released statement, Jake considers himself to be one 'lucky mother f**ker.' On a side note, I am rather surprised and a little disappointed that there wasn't more talk of Jake's shooting in heavy metal circles....

It's now clear to me why Metallica didn't put out an album in 1989. They didn't need to because Testament's "Practice What You Preach" album sounds a hell of a lot like Metallica. In fact, I had to look again at the credits on the album to make sure it was actually Chuck Billy singing and not James Hetfield. Even some of the rhythms on many of the tracks sound like Metallica....

Hardcore thrash at its best. That's all I can say about Agnostic Front's "Live at CBGB" album. Okay, I could also say that this concert must have been total mayhem and carnage, at least that's what I take from listening to the album. With nineteen songs in just over half an hour, it must have come and gone in a complete whirlwind....

This EP by Pennsylvania band, Dream Death, is a bit of a puzzle for me. Two years earlier, they released a full album, "Journey into Mystery," so why just an EP this time around? Were they dropped by their label or only given a one album deal? The answer to either question could be 'yes,' as "Ode to Sorrow" was released as an independent....

The big question here is whether I can deliver an unbiased book review. After all Dawn LeFevre is my sister. I'll leave it up to you to decide the point on bias so here we go. Set in the 1980s, "The Metal Sisters" is the story of Sapphire and Destiny, two girls from what you call opposite sides of the tracks but come together under a common interest, heavy metal....

In reality, it's not often that an album title reflects the music contained within. However, in the case of Kreator's "Extreme Aggression" album, the title fits the album perfectly. The album is nothing but extreme aggression, thrash metal as thrash was meant to be. Reading the history of the recording of the album, I have discovered that it was recorded twice....

Dave 'Squirrely' Allison Sadly, I must report the death of the original rhythm guitarist from Anvil, Dave 'Squirrely' Allison. Dave played with the band until 1989, which included the band's first three and probably best known albums, "Hard and Heavy," "Metal on Metal" and "Forged in Fire." Tributes have been pouring in, including from Lipps and Robb Reiner. For the full story, click the link: Anvil Rest in peace Dave.

I swear it's pure coincidence. When I listed the albums I was going to post about for 1989, it didn't occur to me that I would be posting albums from three different German bands in a row but it worked out that way. We've had Accept, U.D.O. and now you're getting the "Live in the UK" album from Helloween. Twice I had the intention of seeing this band live, the first time was at Donnington in 1988 but traffic jams foiled it....

Normally, I don't like to say one album is better than another but after listening to Accept's "Eat the Heat" and then U.D.O.'s "Mean Machine" albums in conjunction, I have to say that I prefer "Mean Machine." While I meant every good thing I said about the Accept album, it did seem like they were exploring a bit, not a bad thing really, but U.D.O....

As I write about Accept's 1989 album, "Eat the Heat," I wish there weren't so many issues of the same album and I'm not just talking about this one. In regards to "Eat the Heat," there was both a US and a European issue of the album and the main difference is they have the tracks in different orders. So, the closer on the one is a different for the other and I'm not sure if either track is the best for the closer because the version I've been listening to on Youtube has the track "Break the Ice," which appears on the Japanese issue and if it was up to me, that track would have been used as the closer, period....

So, I won't wear my fingers out typing the title to Warrant's debut album, I'm simply going to refer to it as "DRFSR." I am also going to do when I sometimes write about a band's debut album and apply what I have come to know over the years that I didn't know back in the day. Therefore, I am going to call "DRFSR" a promising start to Warrant's career as a band....

When I posted about the soundtrack to the film "Shocker," I stated that it was my introduction to Dangerous Toys, however, I did not explore the band further at the time, silly me. The song from the soundtrack, "Demon Bell," doesn't appear on their self-titled debut album. What you get instead is eleven really good metal tunes. The two singles lead off the album and when I heard the second track, "Scared," I definitely knew I had heard it before....

The last post on the Dogs D'Amour EP, "A Graveyard of Empty Bottles," was sort of a bonus post as I had no knowledge of it until I attempted to research the following album, "Errol Flynn."
