A K’s B-Set having its first ever run-out on the clubs’s test tracks last night. The kits must have been about 50 years old and were shockers, only the ends and sides could be used (after fettling) and, really, the lot wasn’t that much more than a scratch-build aid!
The coaches are to Dia. E116 and were the first iteration of the GWR’s iconic bogie suburban B-Sets. Characterised by flat ends, semi-permanent coupling and no buffing gear on their inner ends, they were Composites with just one First compartment at the inner end over the bogie. They ran initially in the Bristol Division.
More details regarding the build itself will eventually make their way onto the project section of our website.
Are the models an accurate representation? Well, the sides are too thick, the tumblehome is wrong, the roofs are incorrect and they sit just a mm or two too high, but at least the models are recognisable! But don’t look too hard, remember, they are from K’s!
We’ve just set up our sales stand for this weekend’s show: some amazing bargains in there, along with hard to find items. Don’t forget to visit!
Tonight we had our annual modelling competition with entries for diorama, kit build and scratch built. First place for the diorama went to Gwion for his detailed GWR engine shed scene, kit built was awarded to Evan for his superbly lined model of Sir Haydn and the scratch build was awarded to Tony by unanimous vote for his outstanding model of Gloucestershire Cathedral. A chairman’s award was also given to Evan for his impressively minuscule model of Aberllefenni. Well done to all!
