The Chalet Somerset

We’ve just got back from the most wonderful trip to Bath. We were a week too soon for the Christmas market - which starts on the 28th December but the city is looking so Christmassy and there is a hive of activity with everything being set up for the market.

It only took us (little over) an hour on the train to get there, with a quick change at Bristol Temple Meads.

I would highly recommend that anyone staying in The Chalet puts Bath on their list of places to visit. The architecture is stunning and there are so many lovely shops, bars and restaurants, not to mention the Roman Baths and Abbey to see.

Wow…I am literally blown away!

One of our lovely guests has returned this evening for a second visit and presented me with a sketch she did of the chalet last time she was here 🥰

Swipe right and you will see another sketch she did whilst she was here last time of a church in Taunton.
Can anyone recognise it and name it? I got it immediately.

Rose, you are an awesome artist and it’s a pleasure to see you return to the chalet and I shall buy a frame when I get the chance and this will take pride of place in the chalet 💜 thank you!

🫶🏻I love the photo of this chap or lady, (I’m no pro at determining the gender of Highland cattle when they are lying down!) I took a couple of years ago near Bruton in Somerset.
🍏 We’re not only infamous for cider and apples in Somerset but also plenty of wildlife.
🏡 Whilst staying in the chalet you will see Roe Deer, Bats, Kestrels, Badgers, Foxes, Owls and not forgetting our own chickens, guinea fowl and of course our two dogs Poppy and Maple!

🍏 Happy Somerset Day 2024!
What is Somerset Day?
🎉 Somerset Day is the 11th May and is celebrated annually over the second weekend in May. It marks Alfred the Great’s call to arms and the gathering of ‘all the people of Somerset’ to march against the invading Viking army, and is now an annual opportunity to celebrate all that is “great” about Somerset and its residents and communities.

👑 Alfred is the only Monarch to have been called the Great and following his defeat of the Danes is regarded by many to be the first King of England. By the 890s Alfred’s charters and coinage were referring to him as ‘King of the English’.
🖊️ The date was chosen by an online poll in 2015 in which over 8,000 people voted.

🎊11th May features more than once among the milestones of Somerset history.

🌺 I dont think I’ve really ever posted from the other end of the chalet….so here we go! We have this wonderful floor to ceiling gable end window in the bedroom and this is what allows for the spectacular views of the rolling Somerset countryside!

🦔 We are lucky enough to live in the countryside and when staying with us at, The Chalet Somerset, you will encounter lots of wildlife such as badgers, deers, bats.
Generally we are lucky enough to see one hedgehog (and that’s special) but to find 3 hedgehogs nestled together on your garden path is an absolute treat!
I found these hedgehogs curled up together one morning on our garden path. I had already moved them carefully into the bushes but they had found their way back onto the path, later the same day, which is when I took the photo.
To be honest I thought hedgehogs were nocturnal but these little ladies (or fellas) were certainly enjoying the sunshine…or maybe they were sleeping off a busy night in the sun 🤔
