Lambing time has begun at Little Jacks Cottage, this little guy was rescued from the field last night after being born early. Now doing really well, cozy and warm with mum!

Little Jacks Cottage - more than just a name!

Little Jacks is named after Jack Lord who lived in the cottage for many years with his wife Margaret and continued to do so after she passed away.

He was well known to the locals around Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Margaret was the amazing cook at The Shepherd's Rest Inn and made a delicious chicken liver pate starter ... amongst other dishes.

Jack was often seen daily, walking up and down, around the local area to enjoy a pint ... or two 😉.
He always had time (and loved nothing more than) to stop for a natter!

In his later years Jack moved from the cottage into Millreed Lodge (this picture was taken there).

Unfortunately, Jack passed away peacefully in hospital during 2022, aged 86.

Jack was a tiny stature of a man (hence 'Little Jack') with a huge heart. 💖

Little Jack lived very happily in the cottage and we are honoured to have had the privilege of knowing him.
To continue with his ethos the cottage was brought back to life and renamed 'Little Jacks Cottage'.

Introducing to you... Stoodley Pike... sitting high on the 1300 ft (400m) hillside above Todmorden.

The 121 foot (37 m) monument was designed in 1854 by local architect James Green, and completed at the end of the Crimean War in 1856, making it 168 years old.

It was erected following the collapse of an earlier structure in 1854 which was completed during 1815 to commemorate the defeat of Napoleon and the surrender of Paris, after the Battle of Waterloo.

Stoodley Pike contains a spiral staircase of 39 steps, accessed from its north side. There are no windows in the monument so some of the steps are in darkness, therefore a torch is useful to have on hand.

Without a doubt, the views as shown in the photograph are well worth the hour ish walk from Little Jacks Cottage!
