Our 4th day on the John Muir Way with a spectacular 10 miles from Falkirk to Linlithgow. We left the Antonine wall and Callendar Park House at Falkirk and climbed through the woods to join the Union Canal. We saw not just lots of ducks and swans but also goldfinches and a soaring, swooping eagle. The Avon Aqueduct carries the canal over the River Avon at a height of 26m and length of 250m built in 1822. The longest and highest in Scotland. Then down the banks of the Avon to the 26 arches of the Avon Viaduct, which has carried the main Edinburgh-Glasgow railway since 1842. A very satisfactory day!
