It's been a busy week, where I've guided on a bunch of walking tours, with groups of between 2 and 18 guests, and I've thoroughly enjoyed each one! Even the launch tour of new 'Spinning Yarns, Exploring the Linen Quarter' in pouring rain☔️. It's great to meet new people, local and from across the world, and to make sure they have a bit of craic and learn a little about Belfast as we explore the city together. Thanks to everyone who has been out with me so far this summer on a Music, Punk Music, Historic Pubs or Spinning Yarns tours 😄. I look forward to seeing who I'll meet on the many tours still to come.

Beyond Skin is gearing up for Pulsations, a one-of-a-kind event as part of this year's Make Music Day UK

This year, our vibrant Linen Quarter is joining the global celebration of Make Music Day for the first time ever. On Friday, June 21st, from 8am to 9pm, enjoy 25 free concerts across nine locations

With a lineup as diverse as our UNESCO City of Music, you’ll experience everything from roaming brass bands and LGBT choirs to classical, traditional, and even Thai-Irish ensembles

Belfast, along with cities and musicians worldwide, will unite music and hearts through a rhythmic relay for Make Music Day (also known as the Fête de la Musique). This special event, organized by the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad, the Arab World Institute, and the Make Music Alliance, celebrates musical creation

Pulsations, a rhythmic relay across 24 countries, will be inaugurated by renowned trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf. His melodic heartbeat will resonate across bands and artists in the 24 participating countries, broadcast live on the Make Music Day platform

In Paris, the live stream will be displayed on large screens above the stage of the Arab World Institute, complementing Maalouf's live concert in the early evening

Belfast will represent the UK with an event managed by Beyond Skin. Fusionarium, a music project with sonic welder Luigi Cirillo at the helm, will pick up the music beat torch in a live-streamed broadcast at 5:00pm from the Show Some Love greenhouse in the city

Joining the Fusionarium broadcast will be musicians Behnam Ghazanfari Pour, Binu Manuel, and Zambia music star Smack Jay, visiting Belfast with support from the Zambia Ministry of Tourism and Culture. An audience will also be invited for a longer music performance

Beyond Skin’s principal funder is the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Gilly Campbell, Director of Arts Development at the Arts Council, said, “The Arts Council is delighted to support Beyond Skin, thanks to The National Lottery. We are hugely proud to see Beyond Skin represent Belfast and the UK as part of Make Music Day and the Paris 2024 Cultural Olympiad."

“Music has the power to bring people and communities closer together and, in this case, the world,” continued Campbell. “This promises to be a wonderful and thrilling event, and I encourage everyone to tune in to the live broadcast on the 21st June.”

I always enjoy taking the Belfast Punk Music tour, but a great group like yesterday’s makes it even better. We had folk from Holland, Sweden and the US, as well as many from Belfast and nearby. We celebrated one guest’s birthday, who shared stories of her days working at The Pound bar. We enjoyed the great weather and the buzz in town - and of course we listened to punk music, past and present!

Summer punk tour dates are Friday 19 July and Saturday 17 August.

Phew! May is flying by, CQAF came, CQAF delivered and now as quick as it arrived CQAF is away again. No rest for us at Black Box though, we took a Monday to take stock and regroup and here we are again.

Black Moon returns tonight for it's monthly outing with all the usual whistles, bells and, of course, tunes from the Black Moon DJs.

On Wednesday Coven Comedy Club will be bringing Sinead Walsh to the Black Box while King Cedar, Amanda Agnew and Simon Templeton come together for an intimate evening of folk in the Green Room.

Thursday sees us welcome an event from the NI Mental Health Arts Festival with their open decks night in the Green Room before that Rosie Holt off of the YouTubes and the telly sometimes comes with her 'That's Politainment' show in Black Box on Friday while the Strange Creatures DJs set up their usual basecamp in the Green Room with their carefully crafted canon of songs to sooth the overworked soul after a long week of wage slavery.

Saturday is a day which builds as it goes, our Mini-Moon event returns for another outing this year that afternoon in the Black Box while Best of 3 comedy show makes it's May appearance in the Green Room before the man, the myth, the legend, that is Bob Log III joins us that evening in the Black Box.

After all the that Sunday seems like quite a quiet affair with a lovely sounding little event from NI Mental Health Arts Festival who will be presenting their Poetry Corner in the Green Room.

Hopefully see you in the venue soon.

Ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls and anyone else not included in the above; the big day is almost upon us! Black Box's 18th birthday is this Saturday (the 27th) and we are all VERY excited!

But first...

Tenx9 join us with 9 stories from their speakers on the subject of pets this Tuesday, taking a one-off break from their regular Wednesday appearances.

On Wednesday we'll be joined in Black Box by stand up comedian and panel show diva Rosie Jones who's finally bringing their Triple Threat Tour to Belfast while the First Slip sets up shop for the evening in the Green Room.

Thursday evening sees Overboard board game night running in the Green Room before on Friday we welcome the IBCC Mayday Event to Black Box with performances from Joe Solo and Teknopeasant while Strange Creatures DJ's bring their usual laid back energy to soundtrack Belfast's post work post mortem pinting.

Saturday is given over completely to the venue, we'll be opening at midday for our birthday celebrations. We'll be graced with appearances from acts and performers with ties to the venue throughout the last 18 years. We are buzzing!

And then Sunday morning we're back to business as usual and see the return of the Pop Up Gallery Market with makers, crafters, creators and artists selling their wares in Black Box during Sunday daytime.

Hope to see you all here soon.
