Finally got down to RSPB Frampton Marsh to see the Lesser Yellowlegs last Friday, along with a cast of 2000 Golden Plover, 40 Pintail, 00's of Wigeon, Lapwing and a Couple of Peregrines. A few other wadersCurlew, Redshank and Dunlin in attendance.

Last month was the sixth wettest July on record ☔ BUT without adequate infrastructure for storage it will have made little difference in terms of water supply. REMINDER: the last reservoir to be built in the UK was over 30 years ago!

Our failure to invest sufficiently in water storage, desalination (the process by which dissolved mineral salts in water are removed) or water recycling plants coupled with insufficient efforts to reduce demand, mean during prolonged drier periods water companies will continue to over-rely on already stressed river systems.

We've had an unexpected visitor to Hickling today 👀

A black-winged kite! This is the second-ever sighting of the bird in the UK & a first for Norfolk 😮

It's likely that pressures such as extreme heat are impacting the birds' preferred habitat & access to food, pushing this species & many others to seek newer, more hospitable places to live & breed 🌍🔥🏠

This rare encounter is bittersweet - a stark reminder of the increasing impact of the climate crisis on our beloved wildlife.

Really bad news

⚠PLEASE NOTE:⚠
We have had a number of bird deaths, specifically Kittiwakes, on the cliffs and sea at Bempton reserve, that are being investigated as Avian Influenza or ‘Bird ‘flu’. DEFRA has been informed.

The Kittiwakes (and many other species) will be leaving our cliffs in the coming weeks, quite a few of the young have fledged. While it is worrying, the birds affected are in a small localised area. It is hoped that the majority of the birds will leave the cliffs before the impact worsens.

What does this mean for you?
The reserve will remain open, as risk of infection in humans is low.
However, Please DO NOT touch or remove dead or dying birds, DOG WALKERS please keep your dog on a short lead to avoid contact with sick or dead birds. We have been advised, in order to keep our team safe, we should leave any dead birds where they are unless they pose a serious public health risk.

Thank you for your support and understanding through this trying time.

Visited RSPB Arne part of the Isle of Purbeck conservation area in Dorset.
Tremendous weather and sightings, my first Sand Lizard ever, lots of these Silver studded Blues. Green eyed bees plus lots of Sika Deer.
