While Islay’s appeal lies generally in the Summer months. Why not take advantage of life at a slower pace. A crisp Autumn walk along a deserted shore, followed by a warming cup of tea and scones fresh from the oven. It’s the simple things that make us happy.

What a Summer it has been on Islay.
Long sunny days, picnics on deserted beaches, bike trips, boat trips, paddleboarding, swimming with friends. Whisky sampling, rambling walks, discovering hidden treasures and learning more about our islands chequered past. Not to mention those evenings spent just sitting atop a quiet hill watching the colours of the sky change as the sun drops down into the Atlantic. 2021 you have been a strange old year but it’s been one heck of a Summer!

Far flung destinations undoubtably have their appeal but sometimes, there is nowhere more beautiful than home.

As the world is slowly beginning to go back to some sort of normality, we very much look forward to welcoming guests again to our holiday cottages and sharing the beauty of our island home with you all.

Following today’s announcement we would like to advise anyone planning to travel to the island of the latest guidance.
The safety of our small community here is of the upmost importance to us so we will be asking all guests to follow this recommendation (as copied below)

‘If you are planning to travel to an island we do encourage you to take two lateral flow tests before you depart.

The second test should be on the day that you are planning to travel, and the first should be three days before you travel.’

Islay is a stunning island made even more special by the warmth of its people and we love nothing more than sharing its beauty with all who visit. We are excited to be getting to meet with guests again who have become old friends and also to meet new visitors who have yet to discover the beauty of our island home.

All we ask is that you follow these recommendations to ensure that we can all relax knowing that all you brought with you was a sense of adventure, a desire to meet new friends and leave with nothing but amazing memories and a small piece of the magic of Islay in your heart.

We hope you understand and we look forward to meeting you all over the forthcoming months.

Even in the darkest of winter. Islay’s scenery never ceases to surprise me. It’s been a mixed bag of a month but no matter what the weather throws at us. There is always a point in the day that you just have to stop and admire the view.

Beautiful cold crisp morning on Islay today. Perfect excuse to eat breakfast on the patio. The birds clearly enjoying the frosty weather too. Lost count of how many different types we could hear calling.

Some days checking on the livestock are so much nicer than others. For once I was quite happy to take a stroll to the top of the hill.

Finally I have decided to enter the real world and create a social media page for our cottages. The plan is to keep you all updated on what is happening on Islay, share some of the glorious scenery and maybe a few updates on farm life as we go about our every day business on our livestock farm.
We have two cottages, one located at Ballinaby - An Conusg - on the west coast of the island and the other at Gortanachuirn ( trust me spelling it is easier than saying it!) which is just behind the village of Bruichladdich. An Conusg sleeps 6 and Gortanachuirn sleeps 4.

An Conusg. Located on the west of the island at Ballinaby farm it is a short walk to the stunning beach at Saligo. Islay’s farm distillery, Kilchoman is 3 miles away on the opposite side of Loch Gorm. It sleeps 6 people and is in the middle of our farm. From the sitting room windows you can watch the daily farm activities and keep an eye on the cattle and sheep that graze in the fields beside you.

Gortanachuirn Farm is our new cottage finished in 2019 after an extensive renovation. It sleeps four people and is located behind the village of Bruichladdich - a name whisky buffs will be familiar with.
The cottage is situated at the end of a farm track and has no near neighbours. If you are looking for a getaway from it all location, somewhere to relax, chill out on the fantastic raised deck and watch the seasons change, then this is the perfect place for you.
