Diamonds in the Community are committed to supporting those most in need in our community, and our extensive range of programmes are designed to hopefully address local identified needs. This includes our Free Kids Camps; Sporting Memories Groups; Disability and Walking Sports, and our Mental Health programme.
Unfortunately, due to the current health crisis, we are unable to deliver any of these, but remain committed to putting our time and energy into helping the community through this crisis, and are therefore launching our COMMUNITY ASSIST SCHEME.
We are incredibly lucky to have a large bank of volunteers with a variety of different attributes and skills willing to help, and are also part of a much larger network of organisations in the area who are coming together to help the people in the area. We can help with the following :-
BEFRIENDING CALLS
Do you know of someone who is possibly living in isolation, or suffering from poor mental health, that would benefit from a call and conversation? If so, drop us a message, and we’ll seek to put an appropriate volunteer in touch with them. If needed, the volunteer will be in possession of a PVG.
FOOD BANK DONATIONS
If you wish to make a donation to the Food Bank, in support of those most in need of such in our community, drop us a message, and we can arrange for a contactless collection of such from your doorstep.
GROCERY SHOPPING
The majority of retailers are putting on additional home deliveries which we would advise you to use. However if you have urgent needs, we can collect your shopping list from you, and deliver the essential items you need.
PRESCRIPTION COLLECTION
If you have urgent medication to pick up but cannot leave the house, give us the your details and name of pharmacy, and we will collect for you.
DOG WALKING
If you are struggling to get out of the house to take your pooch a walk, we can pick him/her up at an agreed time and take it for a relevant length of walk in your area.
ASSISTANCE WITH SKYPE/ZOOM
Many families and businesses are using technology to communicate with each other from home. This can sometimes be daunting if you are not used to the various apps, so we can talk you through installation and how these work over the phone.
HOME SCHOOLING SUPPORT
Education authorities have stressed the importance of focussing on supporting a child’s emotional and physical wellbeing during these unprecedented times, as opposed to worrying (too much) about ensuring that their ‘schooling’ continues. If you and your child wish to engage in educational activities however, and are struggling to find inspiring and motivational material, drop us a message, and we’ll strive to assist (if possible) by providing age and stage appropriate tasks that support learning in a range of subjects.
SIGNPOSTING TO OTHER ORGANISATIONS
From Mechanics to Citizens Advice Bureau, if you are struggling with anything just now and don’t know where to turn, we can help and point you in the right direction.
Finally, as with many other charities throughout the world, our immediate sources of income, such as corporate and individual sponsorship, and a variety of fundraisers, have all been put on hold. This puts a massive strain on our ability to deliver our projects when the crisis is over, and be an anchor organisation in the current targeted local approach to help our community in this time of need.
We appreciate that every penny is a prisoner for everyone right now, but if you can spare something for our crowdfunding page - no matter how big or small - we would hugely appreciate it. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/keep-diamonds-in-the
