View of Instow from the beautiful village of Appledore. Both villages are definitely worth a visit if you're staying at Number One, lovely eateries and pubs, Instow is a dog friendly beach too.

Don't fancy a trip across the sea to Lundy? You can stay on land and watch the sunsetting over the island from the Westward Ho! to Abbotsham Cliffs coastal path.

Things to do when staying at Number One Bideford.....
We would highly recommend a day trip to Lundy Island, it is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. To visit the island you take a boat trip on the Oldenburg which leaves from Bideford Quay which is a short walk from the house, if you're lucky you may spot seals or dolphins on your journey.
When you get to the island you are free to explore or take a guided walk. You will see goats, horses and sheep and depending on the time of year perhaps puffins. There is a pub, a church, a tiny museum and a shop.
A place of outstanding natural beauty and definitely worth a visit. I'll let the photos do the talking!

Do you love crafts and holidays in Devon?!
I also run craftworkshops at Magpie & Hook in Bideford. We have a series of fantastic full day workshops coming up this Autumn term, including .....

A DOG IN A DAY.
Saturday 10th September
10.30am - 4.30pm

Join mixed media artist Kate Toms for this one day needle felting workshop.
Needle felting is a simple process – the fleece is shaped with the hand and ‘fixed’ in place using barbed needles.
Working with a simple wire armature and fleece, Kate will take you through the process of making a small standing dog.
No experience is needed and should you not complete the project on the day, you will leave with the wherewithal to complete the project at home.
Use of tools is included and all materials will be provided but if you wish to do so, you can bring a small piece of ribbon or fabric for your dog’s collar.

This full day class is priced at £80 plus £5 for materials, we have availability at the house on this date (minimum stay 3 nights - Friday to Monday) :)

A quick turnaround this week with the help of the lovely Hazel who did a fantastic clean and reset for me. A family of four plus a doggo this week. So the trundle bed popped out and into action, hope this glorious weather lasts for them 🌞

We welcome up to two small/medium dogs.
There are lots of lovely walks in Bideford and the surrounding area, including two beautiful beaches just a short drive away.
Here is my dog cooling off with a paddle in the river Torridge this morning.

The kitchen is all refurbished and ready for guests, cook up a storm, or just a frozen pizza! The kitchen has a brand new cooker & fridge freezer and is fully stocked with all new pots and pans, crockery, glassware and more.

Brand new appliances are in! Fridge-freezer, cooker and washing machine. I do try to buy local were possible and we use this brilliant Bideford company at our home too. Great service and very reliable :)
