"Eveyone, stop! I need to take a selfie!" 📸
My first tour of the season started with a bang - 20 American guests came over to the cotswolds this week, and we've had a blast!

My biggest concern ahead of the trip, will they all get along?
As a guide, I feel much more at peace when the guests are chatting amongst themselves. It takes the pressure off me, facilitating conversation, and starts to feel more like a group of pals out on an adventure. And lo and behold, we all got along swimmingly 😃

Another worry was the age of some of the guests... one being 82! YES 82!!! 😲
But we took our time and made it up each and every one one of those country hills. What an awesome thing to be doing in your 80s... I hope I've still got the beans for it when my time comes!

I was nervous before this one. With so many people to manage, anything could go wrong. And I hadn't guided such a big group in a while, so all the usual fears around safety came flooding back. But that's the wonderful thing about having a co guide. You provide support for one another and devise plans behind the scenes to make sure the guests are having best possible holiday. I was certainly channelling my best duck impression at times - calm on the surface, paddling like hell!

In the end, we cycled our final day around Bath and said our goodbyes. It's hard to believe so much can happen in 6 days, but that's the beauty of a cycling holiday. It supercharges your exposure to a country and its people. You experience so much more and finish with an increíble sense of belief in yourself. There really is no better way to explore, but I may have mentioned that already 🙈😉😃

Adventures on your doorstep! 🥾⛰️
I've lived in Bristol for a year and this was my first time up Pen y Fan?!
Snow capped peaks, steep rocky climbs, stunning snack stops. A quick dash over the border and before you know it, you're in a completely wild and epic landscape! 😃
We found an awesome place to camp in the foothills too and got to wake up to some relatively clear weather 🤯
24 hours later:
1000m climbed ✅️
Whiskey round the fire ✅️
Morning mountain views ✅️
Adventure 💯

We are very selective about where we stay and what we do on our tours....
That's why we have partnered with who will be hosting us on our first night of the Scottish coast to coast! 🚴‍♀️
A newly refurbished community centre in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park and a certified by the making them a leader in sustainability in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💪🍃
They run a multitude of local events and won the SME news award for most idyllic community centre of year last year! ❤️
We met with the lovely team here in January and can't wait to come back in the Summer and see it in all its glory!

Why camp? 🏕

Scotland has the right to roam, so we can camp where wherever we like and experience the rare beauty of the landscape.

So, depending on how you are feeling that day, you have the freedom to choose your route and when to stop.

It takes away the stress of committing to accommodation and feeling bound by a schedule. Instead, you can decide what is best on the day and that means you are never in a rush and can fully appreciate your surroundings.

With sparsly populated areas, there is very little light pollution. So you can sleep under a blanket of stars in total silence and wake up to some breathtaking sunrises.

On our coast to coast ride in the summer we will be experiencing the joy of cmaping in the wilderness. But we have partnered with some amazing local organizations to guarantee we have a few home comforts when we arrive, and still feel connected with nature!

Each location will have full bathroom facilities and showers, as well as kitchen use and an option to take refuge indoors if the weather is not on our side.

💥SCOTLAND COAST TO COAST🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
📅 4th of June
📍Ayr, Ayrshire
🕙 5 days 5 nights
⛺️ Camping
💪 Difficulty - moderate

The south of Scotland is quickly becoming one of the top cycling destinations in the world, and it's not hard to see why. With short train links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, many people are starting to explore this beautiful region that is often overlooked.

Featuring idyllic beaches, vast forest parks, and endless country roads, the south of Scotland is the perfect destination for a cycling holiday. Plus, you have the right to roam, meaning you can camp wherever you like and fully immerse yourself in nature and experience the stark beauty of the country.

But it's not just about cycling. We carefully selected each destination for its strong connection to nature and dedication to maintaining Scotland's unique landscape. There are incredible organizations working hard to showcase the county in the most sustainable way possible, so we partnered up with some of our favourites to ensure you get to learn all about these amazing projects.

We will also be following some of the famous John Muir Way, a beautiful off-road route through the middle of the country created by the man himself, who is heralded as the father of environmentalism. And don't forget about some of our favourite local shops serving up tasty snacks along the way.

This coast to coast ride has it all. And what better way to experience it than with a group of like-minded adventurers!

Happy world environment day! 🌎
Sustainability is one of our key values at ZCA 🍃
It can be thrown around w***y nilly by many other companies... stating their intentions to carbon off-set, or reduce by 20-whenever...
But we understand the immediacy of the climate crisis. And genuinely believe we can make a big difference by changing our travel methods.
So we are launching a new ride series starting this year... 🥁🥁🥁
🍃CARBON CONCIOUS DAY TRIPS🌎
These will involve a short train ride out to our starting location, link up with our chosen route and then finish again at a train station to travel home.
The first ride of this series will be on the 8th of July in Dartmoor!
If your interested in joining us, head to our website and reserve your ticket and we'll send you more info!

Let's talk about women in cycling.
Cycling is a male dominated sport. Having spent a lot of my time in bike shops, either buying or selling bikes I have experienced a lot of sexism. Whether it be directly to women, or expressed amongst men about women.
Both are wrong. But I want to talk more about the latter.
As men, we can often assume a joke at the expense of others in the company of other men is fine because those people are not hearing it, so it does not affect them.
But in fact, it does.
As men, we hear these seemingly harmless jokes and pass them off as 'banter' but in reality they are cementing the idea that women are less than and that we are superior.
Which may not be the intention but as we normalise and accept those comments, it sends a message to others that it's okay to treat women as less than. Or in worst-case scenarios, as objects, which has much more serious consequences.
It can be scary to reject these behaviours amongst men. At the end of the day, all we want is to be accepted and liked amongst our peers. But it's up to us to call out these behaviours.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone felt welcome in cycling and it led to more people out exploring on two wheels?

Sometimes, I have to force myself to do the things I love.
After feeling anxious and isolated for a couple of days, I find myself easily slipping into a world of loneliness and separation.
Falling back into old habits which I know do not serve me, but offer temporary restbite from difficult emotions.
The main emotions are fear and shame. Fear that I will continue to feel like this. And shame that I am not doing enough.
For me, the hardest thing to do is to face those emotions and welcome them, like I would any positive emotion. And once I acknowledge them, their potency subsides. Then I can start to think clearly about the things that make me happy.

Swimming at sunrise is pretty high on that list.

So, after forcing myself out of bed and into the ocean this morning, I can start my day feeling calm and grounded. Knowing that those feelings might return and that's okay, the ocean isn't going anywhere.
