New York is one of the cities in the world with the largest Irish population in the world.

Today, like every year, is a special day for them.

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and this national holiday has spread throughout the world as well as its inhabitants.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, popularly known as the MET, is the most important museum in the United States and the jewel of Manhattan. Its location has also helped its conversion into an icon, next to Central Park, on the so-called Fifth Avenue Museum Mile.

It was founded in 1870 and 2 years later it opened to the public. For this reason, in 2020 the exhibition “Making the Met 1870-2020” was prepared, celebrating its 150th anniversary. In it there was a special selection of 250 works. We cannot imagine how difficult it had to be to make the selection since his collection has more than 2 million pieces.

Unfortunately, 4 days before the inauguration, the pandemic caused all its activity to be suspended. Already in 2021 it was possible to do "Making the Met" again with a reduced capacity. The museum explained that it was a review ““on collecting, on how nowadays works should be displayed, interpreted and related to the historical moment”.

Today, the MET continues its journey with an extensive program of exhibitions and events.

We continue reading with great satisfaction as New York is taking steps towards the recovery of total normality.

It is no longer mandatory to wear masks indoors in public places in New York.

A few days ago, the governor of the state lifted the order that required it. Thus, the use of masks will be optional in places such as shops, gyms, restaurants, etc.

However, it is important to remember that it is still mandatory in transport and airports, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, prisons and homeless shelters.

CityPASS, the attraction discount card for New York, has announced that the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) will no longer be included as of March 1.

All CityPASS purchased before March 1 could have the MET entry until its expiration date, which is 1 year after purchase. When you visit the first attraction you have 9 consecutive days to use the rest of the tickets.

This is the card that we usually use on our trips, so we RECOMMEND that you buy it now if you are going to travel to New York before March 1 of next year and you had planned to use the card.

CityPASS includes admission to 6 attractions, saving 42% on the price separately. The attractions are:

- Empire State Building
- American Museum of Natural History
- Metropolitan Art Museum
- Top of the Rock Observatory or Guggenheim Museum
- Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island or Circle Line Cruises
- 9/11 Memorial & Museum or Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Last week the demolition of one of the most iconic hotels in New York City began. A single fact is enough to see the magnitude of the building: it was the first to have a telephone line in the Big Apple.

The Hotel Pennsylvania, with its 1,700 rooms spread over 22 floors, was the fourth largest hotel in Manhattan. After 103 years of service to the city, it will give way to a modern metal and glass tower, more in keeping with the architecture of this century.

There were several neighbourhood associations and organizations that were against doing away with the historic Beaux Arts building. But as we have already told you, their protests were in vain and the owners went ahead with the demolition plan.

Whether with the Hotel Pennsylvania or without it, New York remains that city of dreams.

For a few days now, the NYC Winter Outing campaign has been underway in the Big Apple.

For all of you who have doubts about the situation with COVID and have been asking us about trips and reservations.

Our message is currently one of absolute TRANQUILITY.

As many of you already know, since we were able to travel to New York again, WE HAVE ALREADY MADE 3 TRIPS with groups. People have been very satisfied and they have been wonderful trips.

And the most important thing for people with reluctance: we have led a NORMAL LIFE and WE HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING CLOSED. The measures there are similar to those here, so taking the same care you don't have to worry about anything.

As the Beatles said in their song Money (That's What I Want), "the best things in life are free." However, in New York, like any big city, it can give you the feeling that you are constantly spending money.

That's why today we tell you 3 things you can do in The Big Apple that are FREE:

1. Litte Island
One of the latest attractions to debut in New York City. Admission is free and, like any park in the city, it has opening and closing hours. It is a floating island on the Hudson River, attached to one of its piers. Inside, cultural and artistic events are held, in addition to having recreational areas and new landscapes for the city. The views are spectacular from its vantage points.

2. 9/11 Memorial
The entire 9/11 memorial site, as well as the fountains that are located where the Twin Towers were, can be visited for free. Although it is true that accessing the viewpoint of the One World Trade Center or the 9/11 Museum does have a cost.

3. Staten Island Ferry
A ferry leaves every half hour from lower Manhattan to Staten Island. Best of all, the tour, in addition to offering a spectacular view of New York and the skyline of its skyscrapers, passes by the Statue of Liberty. And yes, as we promised you at the beginning, this ferry is also totally free.

We tell you about our experience with trips to New York and COVID: NEW YORK IS TOTALLY SAFE. 🇺🇸 ✈ 🗽

We have already been to New York 3 times since the borders were opened: one that Daniel did first just to check how everything was and then another two with groups of travellers.

Complying with the rules to fly that we have already informed you about, which are very easy, wearing masks for the subway and other interior places, as well as the COVID passport to enter places where they request it, we have not had any problem to be and access to any restaurant, attraction or museum. In addition, outdoors you can go without a mask and almost everyone does it naturally.

There are new restrictions that will affect children and young people, to access certain places, they are the following:

- From yesterday (12/14/2021), minors between 5 and 11 years old must show the COVID passport with at least one dose of the vaccine that has been assigned to them.
- As of December 27, young people between 12 and 18 years old must show the COVID passport with the complete schedule of all the doses of the vaccine that has been assigned
- Unvaccinated minors under 5 years of age must wear a mask and be accompanied by a parent.

These measures affect entry into aquariums and zoos, convention and exhibition centres, entertainment and recreation venues, including movie theatres, music or concert venues and casinos, professional sports stadiums, commercial events and party venues, gyms, gardens. botanicals, museums and galleries, restaurants and bars, lounges, performing arts theatres, bowling alleys, game rooms and billiards.

There is an additional restriction on Broadway and that is that children under 5 years of age may enter the theatre accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult, but the child must present a negative PCR performed 72 hours before the start of the performance or a rapid antigen test performed 6 hours before the start.

In any case, our recommendation is that the children who come to our trips are at least 10 years old. We walk a lot and they are very intense days, so it may be that the little ones get tired very soon and do not enjoy the same. Another thing is that we make a group of kids, which then we do personalize everything for them.

Finally, we want to review all the measures and requirements necessary to travel with full guarantee:

- Are you traveling with children under 2 years of age? They are exempt from all kinds of tests and vaccines.
- Over 2 years: must be vaccinated and present the vaccination certificate. In addition, we have to get tested for COVID-19. before travelling. This test must be done a maximum of 1 day before the flight departs. PCR or antigens do.
- Over 2 years old NOT vaccinated. They cannot travel.
- If you have passed the COVID-19 up to 90 days before the flight departs, you can also travel. You must present an official medical report authorizing you to travel.
- Acceptable proofs of vaccination against COVID-19 in the United Kingdom are the United Kingdom National Health Service COVID Pass, which can be requested online at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/covid- pass/

Tomorrow at 9 pm the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be lit for the 89th time.

Live performances will be held from 2 hours before. The lights will be on until January 7, 2022.

The first time a small Christmas tree was installed on the land, it was done by the Rockefeller Center complex workers themselves, adorning it with paper garlands brought from home and even with some empty tin can. Hence the great show that we enjoy every day, it hasn't been that long!

Enjoying a trip to New York with the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lit up is one of the best travels plans to go to the Big Apple.
