So the job for overseas skilled workers in Portugal are available for foreigners but there are certain requirements such as qualification & work experience, language proficiency, and visa which needs to be taken care of by the job applicant and for that reason i created this useful article to guide you through all of it.

As per the report published by European CEDEFOP a large portion of skill shortage job occupations belong to seasonal work/business categories such as fisheries, forestry, tourism sector, and agriculture, whereas, there are some standard occupations which are also in high demand such as nannies, cleaners, construction workers, programmers, healthcare staff, aerospace and IT staff.

With that i think this might also be worth mentioning that there are some low demand surplus job occupations as well in Portugal for which international recruitment is discouraged in Portugal and those are mining workers, leather industry staff, textile staff, tool makers, trades workers, and blacksmith workers.

Can You Get a Job in Portugal as foreigner?
You can apply for high demand skill shortage jobs available in Portugal which i explained in above section but for that i will further clarify that if you belong from any EEA European Economic Area country, or European Union (EU) region then you can easily find jobs in Portugal but if you belong from any other countries then you are allowed to look for employment opportunities in Portugal online and upon receiving an appointment letter you will then be required to apply for Portugal work VISA or job seekers visa.

I also advise you to prepare your resume, CV, cover letter as per job specifications and other also prepare supporting documents such as work experience letters, recommendations, degrees and transcripts for submitting your job applications in Portugal.

And now if you are wondering where to look for jobs in Portugal then please start from Portugal Government Jobs page from where you will also get to see all open job positions and as i explained above this government portal also focuses on hiring staff for skill shortage occupations which are call centers, IT, tourism, metallurgy, health, construction, and agriculture and all these jobs are advertised at IEFP jobs page here.

Applying or Portuguese Work VISA
Now your last step after getting a job offer from Portugal would be to apply for a Portugal work visa and that you can do by submitting an application for work visa at any Portuguese embassy nearby you with all required documents and application fees of €90.

Upon receiving your temporary visa you will be allowed to enter Portugal for work purpose but later on you will be required to convert your temporary visa into Portuguese residence permit and for that you will be charged around €83.

What are the common reasons for disqualification from the DV lottery?
One of the most common reasons for disqualification from the DV lottery is submitting incomplete or incorrect information. It's important to double-check your application before submitting it to avoid any errors or mistakes. Other reasons for disqualification may include:

1. Not meeting the eligibility criteria.
2. Providing false information or documents.
3. Failing to attend the consular interview or providing insufficient evidence during the interview.
If you receive a notification of selection for the DV lottery, congratulations! This is a significant step toward obtaining a green card and immigrating to the United States. However, there are several things you need to do to move forward with the process:

1. Check your status: First, you need to check your status online to confirm that you have been selected. The Department of State will not notify you by email or phone, so you must check the status yourself.

2. Submit the DS-260 form: Once you have confirmed your selection, you need to submit the DS-260 form, which is the online application for the immigrant visa. You will need to provide detailed information about yourself, your education, your work experience, and your family members. Be sure to provide accurate and complete information, as any errors or omissions can lead to disqualification.

3. Submit supporting documents: Along with the DS-260 form, you will need to submit various supporting documents, such as your birth certificate, passport, marriage certificate, police certificate, and medical examination results. The Department of State will provide you with a detailed list of the required documents.

4. Pay the fees: You will need to pay the required fees for the DV lottery application and the immigrant visa. The fees can vary depending on your country of residence, so be sure to check the fee schedule on the Department of State website.

5. Prepare for the consular interview: If your application is approved, you will be scheduled for a consular interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate in your country of residence. You will need to bring all the required documents with you to the interview and be prepared to answer questions about your background and your reasons for immigrating to the United States.

6. Wait for the visa: If your application is approved, you will receive an immigrant visa that allows you to travel to the United States and apply for a green card. The visa is valid for six months, so you must travel to the United States within that time frame.
It's important to note that being selected for the DV lottery does not guarantee that you will receive a green card. The process can be competitive, and there are a limited number of visas available each year. However, if you follow the guidelines carefully and provide accurate and complete information, you will have a better chance of success.

How to Prepare for the Consular Interview
The consular interview is the final step in the DV lottery process, and it's crucial to be well-prepared. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the interview:

1. Gather all the required documents: Before the interview, make sure you have all the required documents, including your passport, birth certificate, police clearance certificate, medical examination report, and education and work experience certificates.

2. Practice your English: The interview will be conducted in English, so it's important to practice your language skills before the interview. You can practice with a friend, a language tutor, or an online language program.

3. Dress appropriately: Dress professionally for the interview, as it will help make a good impression.

4. Be honest: Answer all the questions truthfully and to the best of your knowledge. Lying or providing false information can result in disqualification or visa refusal.

5. Be confident: The interview can be nerve-wracking, but it's important to stay calm and confident. Listen carefully to the questions and answer them clearly and concisely.

Common Reasons for Visa Refusal
Even if you are selected for the DV lottery and pass the consular interview, there is still a chance that your visa application can be refused. Here are some common reasons for visa refusal:

1. Criminal history: If you have a criminal history, it can lead to visa refusal.

2. Incomplete or incorrect information: Providing incomplete or incorrect information in your visa application can lead to disqualification or visa refusal.

3. Health issues: If you have a contagious disease or a health issue that can pose a threat to public health or safety, your visa application can be refused.

4. Public charge: If you are likely to become a public charge in the United States, your visa application can be refused. This means that you are likely to rely on public assistance for your living expenses.

5. Security concerns: If you have ties to terrorist organizations or pose a threat to national security, your visa application can be refused.

Conclusion
Winning the DV lottery is a dream come true for many people who want to immigrate to the United States. However, the process can be complicated and confusing, so it's important to follow the guidelines carefully. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can increase your chances of winning a green card and starting a new life in the United States. Remember to check the EDV result 2024 regularly, gather all the required documents, fill out the application correctly, and prepare for the consular interview. With perseverance and determination, you can achieve your dream of becoming a permanent resident of the United States.

US Work Visa: US B1, B2 Visa holders can apply for jobs, give interviews while visiting, USCIS shares details
USCIS has announced new relaxations for US Tourist Visa Holders and US Business Visa Holders. As per the latest announcement by USCIS, those who are travelling to the US on the US B-1 Visa or a US B-2 Visa can apply for a job and give interviews during their stay in the country. Details below.
Can you search for the job in the US while travelling as a tourist? The answer is YES! United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS has announced new relaxations for US Tourist Visa Holders and US Business Visa Holders. As per the latest announcement by USCIS, those who are travelling to the US on the US B-1 Visa or a US B-2 Visa can apply for a job and give interviews during their stay in the country.
The B Visas - B-1 for Business and B-2 for Tourism - are the most common visas issued to foreigners during their visit to the United States.
"Many people have asked if they can look for a new job while in B-1 or B-2 status. The answer is, yes. Searching for employment and interviewing for a position are permissible B-1 or B-2 activities," stated USCIS in the tweet.
However, the Immigration centre further stated that a person who has entered the US through the B-1 Visa cannot engage in employment within the domestic labour. Those on the B-2 Visa are not allowed to engage in ANY employment.
In case they are hired, the foreign worker must put in a petition and a request for a change in status. The individual would be allowed to work only after their new employment authorised status is approved. In case, this change in status is denied, the candidate must depart the United States and re-enter through the US Work Visa (H-1B Visa).
This move from the United States comes after numerous foreign workers have been laid off by big tech companies and are now on the search for their next employment before their grace period ends.
The current grace period given to those terminated from their jobs is 60 days. However, a presidential advisory panel has recommended a grace period of 180 days.

Immigration fuels Canada's largest population growth of over 1 million
Canada's population grew by over a million people for the first time ever last year, the government has said.
The country's population increased from 38,516,138 to 39,566,248 people, Statistics Canada said.
It also marked Canada's highest annual population growth rate - 2.7% - since 1957.
The increase was in part fuelled by government efforts to recruit migrants to the country to ease labour shortages, Statistics Canada said.
The country also depends on migration to support an ageing population.
But Statistics Canada said the surge in the number of permanent and temporary immigrants could "also represent additional challenges for some regions of the country related to housing, infrastructure and transportation, and service delivery to the population".
International migration accounted for nearly 96% of the population growth, according to the news release.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made efforts to attract more immigrants to the country since gaining power in 2015. Last year, the government announced a plan to welcome half a million immigrants a year by 2025.
The Canadian government has also been accepting people affected by conflicts like the Ukraine war, the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the 2023 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
On Wednesday, it announced an extension - until July - of a programme that offers to temporarily resettle Ukrainians and their family members.
So far, more than 600,000 applications have been approved of the nearly-one-million that have been received - and more than 130,000 people have arrived in Canada under the initiative.

Why Canada aims to bring in 1.5m immigrants by 2025

Why migrants are choosing Canada in record numbers

Debate around immigration tends to be more positive in "settler" countries than in Western Europe - and most of all in Canada, said Prof Randall Hansen from the University of Toronto.
"Canadians would love to have the world believe they're more open, liberal and accommodating - but this is all nonsense," Prof Hansen, a Canada research chair in global migration, commented.
He told the BBC that Canada had shaped its "national identity" around the idea of multiculturalism in part to differentiate itself from attitudes in its southern neighbour, the US.
Its positivity towards migration was also down to a firm control of borders, an ability to select the "best and brightest" migrants from around the world, and relatively few spatial constraints around major cities, he added.
Canada's previous highest population increase, in 1957, came within the context of the post-World War Two baby boom and the movement of refugees following the Hungarian Revolution.
The country welcomed 437,000 immigrants in 2022, while the number of non-permanent residents in the country increased by 607,782, accounting for a "record-breaking year for the processing of immigration applications", according to the government's news release.
The population increase also means Canada would rank first among the 38 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for 2022 population growth, while it was also the fastest-growing G7 country, according to Statistics Canada.
If Canada maintained the 2.7% increase each year, its population would double in 26 years, the government added.

Increase deportations, recognise migrant deals, EU tells capitals

The European Commission has urged countries across the European Union to increase the deportation of failed asylum seekers and mutually recognise migrant returns agreements in its latest step to improve control of the EU’s borders.

EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson told reporters in Strasbourg on Tuesday (14 March) that in 2022 only 21% of people not eligible for international protection in the EU were returned to their country of origin.

“When we fail to return people, this hampers our system and erodes trust,” she said

“To protect the right to apply for asylum, we have to show that we are appropriately dealing with those who do not qualify for international protection,” Johansson added. “We need migration, but it has to be in a legal and orderly way.”

Johansson added that mutual recognition of returns agreements across the bloc would make it “much easier to streamline returns.”

Very few member states use mutual recognition though the bloc’s existing rules already allow it.

The low levels of migrant returns have been a long-running problem for the EU and are largely the result of national immigration authorities being overstretched, poor communication between states, and the reluctance by third countries to accept failed asylum seekers.

Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas added that the EU needed to establish “common principles on how we manage our borders…to prevent people from playing one country off against another.”

Although EU officials concede that they do not know the scale of so-called ‘secondary movements’, where people make an asylum application in one country and then make an application in another country, they maintain that the numbers are increasing.

Both the EU and individual member states have faced criticism following a series of tragedies in the Mediterranean where migrant boats have sunk, while the rhetoric from EU leaders on migration control and repatriation has become increasingly tough.

However, Schinas said the aim was to have “a common European culture of migration management…combining efficiency and professionalism and to combine the responsibility of having safe borders with the fullest respect of fundamental rights.”

“Whether off the coast of Calabria or the coast of Libya…every life lost in the hands of the smugglers is a tragedy, and it is our responsibility together with our Member States to prevent that,” he added.

EU leaders have also set themselves a target of next year’s European elections to finalise the series of legislative files that form the Pact of Migration and Asylum, and Schinas doubled down on this commitment.

“When Europeans go to vote next May, they should do so with certainty that Europe has delivered this long-overdue agreement on the management of migration,” said Schinas.

Last week, EU home affairs ministers agreed to finalise their own negotiating mandate on most of the files at their next meeting, while the European Parliament is also expected to agree on its stance on most of the files in the coming weeks, paving the way for trilogue negotiations between the EU institutions before summer.

“We are on track to be able to develop the whole pact in this mandate,” said Johansson.

250 Invitations Issued to Provincial Nominee Class Candidates
In this latest draw, the Canadian federal government has issued another 250 invitations to eligible Express Entry candidates. The CRS cut-off score for this draw was 813.

Last year was a record-breaking one for Canada’s Express Entry system. A total of 107,350 invitations were issued, the highest number of ITAs issued through EE in one year. We anticipate that this year will be another big one, with more ITAs issued than ever before.
