Canada next summer anyone? 🇨🇦 WestJet has announced new three times weekly service between Edinburgh and Toronto starting on June 2nd, 2022. Four times weekly flights between Glasgow (GLA) and Toronto will begin on May 20, 2022 and plans have been made to resume its Glasgow – Halifax service.

Emirates have also re-started their Glasgow to Dubai route and flights now operate daily from Glasgow International Airport and arrive into Dubai at 01.05hrs the following day 🇦🇪. This will in time also open up other destinations too as Dubai is a hub for onwards flights to Indian Ocean, Far East and Africa (as and when more destinations are added to the list) 👍

Latest news ❗️

The Government has announced earlier this afternoon that passengers arriving from amber countries who have been fully vaccinated in Europe (EU Member States, European Free Trade Association countries and the European microstate countries of Andorra, Monaco and Vatican City) and the USA will not have to quarantine when entering England, from 4am on 2 August 2021. The latest full guidance is available on the respective government websites.

Following the change, a pre-departure test before arrival into England, alongside a PCR test on or before Day 2 will still be required for amber arrivals who have been fully vaccinated in the USA and European countries. Those vaccinated in the US will also need to provide proof of US residency.

For those travellers returning from France (also known as an Amber Plus destination), separate rules continue to apply – please read more about it by clicking here.

The same statement from the Secretary of State for Transport confirmed that international cruise sailings will restart from England in line with Public Health England guidance. The FCDO advice on international cruise travel is yet to be updated.

❗️❗️❗️Is my passport valid for travel? ❗️❗️❗️

A phone call with a friend due to travel to Spain shortly has highlighted the need for this post.

Generally, we all know that we should have 6 months validity left in our passports when travelling to countries within the EU and EEA, but if you renewed your passport early, extra months may have been added to the expiry date - old rules meant passport holders could carry nine months over from their previous passport, making the maximum validity of 10 years and nine months.

However, these additional nine months will not be valid if heading to the EU, and with Brits also then needing an additional six months on passports to be able to travel, this results in an extra 15 months needed on the passport.

The UK government explains: "You’ll need to have at least six months left on an adult or child passport to travel to most countries in Europe (not including Ireland).

"If you renewed your current passport before the previous one expired, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

"Any extra months on your passport over ten years may not count towards the six months needed."

So we urge you all to please check your passports carefully before travel to make sure they are correct and valid. Both burgundy and blue passports are valid for travel, as long as they are in date.
