Welsh Influence on "The Lord of the Rings"
J.R.R. Tolkien, the mastermind behind "The Lord of the Rings," was not only a literary genius but a philologist deeply connected to Cymru. His works are steeped in the influence of Welsh language, mythology, and landscapes. In his own words, he referred to Welsh as the "senior language of the men of Britain."
Tolkien's appreciation for the Welsh language went beyond mere admiration. He embedded Welsh linguistic elements into his fictional world. The Elvish languages of Quenya and Sindarin, which feature prominently in "The Lord of the Rings," exhibit clear Welsh influences, both in phonetics and structure. This linguistic artistry lent authenticity to Middle-earth.
Cymru's rich mythological tradition was another wellspring of inspiration. The tale of the Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh legends, offered parallels to Tolkien's storytelling. Elements of the Mabinogion, such as the enchanted Cauldron of Rebirth, find echoes in the magical artifacts and tales of Middle-earth.

Tolkien's assertion that Welsh was the "senior language of the men of Britain" is a testament to the language's enduring influence on British culture (as well as its position as the recognised succession language to Brythonic). His own Welsh heritage played a vital role in shaping his creative endeavors.
In a world where languages and mythologies fade into obscurity, Tolkien's work keeps the flame of Welsh influence alive. His ability to infuse the magic of Cymru into his own crafted mythology is a testament to the enduring power of culture and language. As we journey through the pages of Middle-earth, we are reminded of the deep well of inspiration found in Cymru.

January weekend availability 2024
Todays weather is worse than yesterdays so we thought we would show you that being inside is sometimes much better than being outside. Our wood burner in the lodge is left set up ready for you to light with a good supply of logs, kindling and firelighters. There are also full instructions on how to light a fire in our Touchstay app. You can have a roaring fire like this within minutes of arriving if the pre lit hot tub in the rain is not your thing.
We love it when our guests take the time to leave a review. We have some guests who spend all their time in the lodge and don't go far and some who get out and explore the beautiful area we live in. We love the fact thought that everyone loves the tub at night and our 3 local owls are very vocal at the moment so its quite an experience.
Sunday afternoon hot tub vibes! What better way to end a long weekend than by lazing your Sunday afternoon away in the tub relaxing your muscles after a long walk. Or even better after a lie in, big Sunday breakfast and a totally lazy day Big walks are totally optional!
