Out of office warning again.
This time it’s a short holiday and I’m taking Mr T with me. Just a long weekend on board Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady back to Amsterdam for a few days.
I’ll be away from 23-27th August but as always my fabulous colleague Emma will be on hand to help anyone currently travelling.

Myself and Marina got to work. We sourced a balloon company who could help and liaised with the hotel. The secret mission was underway. Balloons duly delivered to the hotel and hidden by the concierge team, Myles and Ellie left for dinner.
On their return look what happened! The hotel were also fab and arranged some special extras as a celebratory treat.
Huge congratulations to the happy couple, I know they’ve loved Dubai and what a place to get engaged!

What. A. Day.
I had 2 bookings for 6 lads on their first holiday without parents due to fly to Majorca yesterday but they had huge delays and then were told their flights were cancelled due to the terrible storms.
A call to me from the runway asking ‘what do we do’ and I got on the case. Thank goodness I’d booked them a fully protected ATOL package. They were quickly re-booked on to new flights and because I’d booked them a package they were taken to a hotel overnight and bused in the early hours of this morning to their respective flights. It was a long sleepless night for all concerned waiting on updates.
As they were on 2 bookings they were taken to 2 different airports and I checked on them during the night to make sure they were ok via WhatsApp The first flight was delayed an hour but I watched them take off at 7am this morning. The 2nd flight was also late but I watched them take off a bit later.
They’re now all in resort more than 24 hours later than planned and they’ve also been split up in their hotels (don’t ask!) BUT they have me on the case. I’ve been in touch with their tour operator and the hotel to work on getting them all back together asap.
The upshot of all this is:
⭐️ALWAYS book a package that’s ATOL protected so you’ll be looked after if something goes wrong
⭐️ Book with a human who cares and will look after you (me obviously 😉)
⭐️ Think about who you’re really booking with. I’ve been in constant touch with the boys through the night and all day today, and I’ve also been reassuring the parents so they know their kids are in good hands.
Would you get this sort of service from an online provider or even a high street agent who closes at 5? And what would you do if this happened to you?
I’ll just leave that there. I know who I’d want on my side if something went wrong 😉

I’ve been so lucky to have been invited by regentcruises to experience the very beautiful Splendor luxury cruise ship for 5 nights and so far it’s gorgeous.
We sailed yesterday from Amsterdam and are shortly docking in Antwerp. The ship is full yet feels quiet, spacious and calm. The facilities on board are top notch. Best I’ve ever seen on a cruise ship and dinner last night at Compass Rose was excellent.
It was also so easy to board with just a couple of passport checks I waltzed straight on! I could get used to this - was less stressful than an airport!

I can't remember the exact date, but about 34 years ago, my career in travel began at Exchange Travel on Pike Street, Liskeard.
My boss at the time, John, took me on as a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) participant, and I spent two years training at St Austell College while gaining hands-on experience at the agency. In those early days, my tasks included creating window displays, stamping brochures, making tea, and learning Viewdata (for those who know, you know) 😂.
From that first day until now, the travel industry has changed dramatically. Back then, we would flip through brochures, check availability, and call operators for prices. I still remember a client who asked to book a holiday to "Costa Cutter" from a 'cost cutter' holiday ad, getting quite confused 😂. It was a lot of fun, and I seized every opportunity to travel, learn, and advance in my career.
Today, the world feels much smaller and more accessible, and my knowledge has expanded immensely over the past 34 years. The role of a travel agent has transformed significantly and now includes crisis management, curating specialist tailor-made itineraries, problem-solving, leveraging technological advances, navigating health and safety regulations, handling visas and documentation, business development, social media, and more.
I absolutely love what I do and can't imagine doing anything else. The people I've met, the experiences I've enjoyed, and the places I've visited have made my career incredibly special, and I feel incredibly lucky. Thank you to everyone for your support!

Something really lovely happened yesterday. A couple I’ve known for many years got in touch for my help to arrange a very special trip to Venice to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.

One of my most requested and booked trips is a safari and this is a once in a lifetime trip that you really want to get right. This year, I've had 2 families in South Africa, a couple in Tanzania, some clients off next week on an epic trip to Kruger National Park followed by 2 weeks self driving in Namibia, and a few 'short' safaris in Sri Lanka (I even managed to squeeze in a little one during my trip back in May). I also have a family off to Singapore and Borneo today with some safari adventures and orangutans thrown in. The variety on offer is amazing and there are so many factors to consider when planning. The right safari for you ultimately comes down to the wildlife you would like to see. For first timers the big five is a great place to start, but if you are a returning guest you might prefer something a little more off the beaten track. With options available across the world, itineraries can be tailored to suit you and extended to add on a beach stay for some relaxation. It’s also important to get the right season in the right location to ensure the best chance of seeing the animals you’ve chosen to view. There’s so much to consider so you do need to take expert advice on this. Amazing Anniversary Day! 4 years ago I travelled to our Travel Counsellors head office in Manchester to start my business and we are invited back every year to celebrate our anniversary day with our TC colleagues, head office support staff and directors. If you are planning your trip for 2024 then here is some of my best advice for the current climate and remember I’m a professional travel planner: ⭐️Use a travel agent. We know how to navigate the systems, have great contacts and do this all day everyday. Let us do the hard work for you. ⭐️Be prepared to compromise. It may be that you go away for slightly less time this year, or fly at unsociable times, or indirect. It will feel worth it for the right trip. Think about what’s most important. ⭐️Don’t compare with previous years. The market has changed, and you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment if you do this. ⭐️ Be open minded. Maybe you take a different trip entirely this year, and swap the all-inclusive beach holiday for a road trip or a villa in the countryside. Try something new. ⭐️Don’t hesitate. If you find something you like - book it. Prices will go up and availability is changing by the hour in some cases. ⭐️Don’t panic. If you can’t get exactly what you want for this year, book for next year instead. The earlier you book the better, and you’ll still have something to look forward to.
