HELLO DECEMBER ✨

November you were a treat!

Travelling to Kerala in Southern India for the first time was a highlight!

I’ve hosted a few private tours now and they just get better and better.

In Kerala we took a Tuk Tuk tour, explored Kochi, tried our hand at Chinese fishing nets, trekked through Periyar Tiger Reserve, went bamboo rafting, toured spice and tea plantations, spent a night on a houseboat and much more besides.

What a wonderful way to spend 24 hours. Sailing the backwaters of Kerala enables you to step off the beaten track and take a closer look at life along the waterways.

The boats are made of Jackfruit wood and waterproofed using cashew oil.

Think waterside views, sunrise yoga, Ayurvedic massages, sunset Keralan cruises and incredible local food and you get the picture!

Onwards now to our houseboat and the next chapter in our Indian adventure! 🇮🇳

THEKKADY 🇮🇳

We’ve had a wonderful few days exploring the highlights of this region. From waterfalls to spice gardens, martial arts shows to trekking in tiger country and tea plantations to traditional dance shows - we have certainly packed in plenty of adventures in our 48 hours here.

A highlight was our morning trek in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The entrance was just a short stroll from our hotel so we donned our leech protection socks and spent a wonderful few hours searching for wildlife with our knowledgeable guides. As well as Gaur (wild bison) we saw plenty of Monkeys, a mongoose, lots of birds, spiders and some of our group also saw a snake (not me, thank goodness!)

We then spent a blissful hour bamboo rafting on Periyar Lake, soaking up the sights and sounds.

KOCHI - TOP FIVE! 🇮🇳

We are having a wonderful time here in Kerala! Our first two nights have been spent in Kochi. Here’s an overview of five fab things to do, see and experience in this wonderful and vibrant city:

1. Tuk Tuk tour - whiz round the main sites and soak up the city vibe in the back of a Tuk Tuk! Make sure you take in the churches and synagogue.

2. Try you hand on the Chinese fishing nets - an iconic sight on the landscape here, the Chinese Fishing nets are now part of the historical fabric of this city. Nowadays they are a tourist attraction but it’s fun to have a go at operating the nets for yourself!

3. Visit vibrant Jew Town - step inside the local shops, try your hand at haggling and enjoy people watching in this lovely part of town.

4. Stop off at Dhobi Khana, a 300 year old community laundry run by the Tamil-speaking Vamman people. Appreciate the deftness and skill of these hard working people, and the incredible results of their had work at this charity-led initiative.

5. Take in a Kathakali Dance performance. Get there early to watch the performers prepare by creating their own mask-style make up.

Off to Thekkady today in search of spices and wildlife!
