New Zealand will drop pre-departure COVID tests for all international arrivals from 21 June.

The news was confirmed today on its government website.

It said that travellers whose international flight to New Zealand departs after 11.59pm on 20 June will be the first who don’t need a negative test to enter.

Anyone on earlier flights will still need to take a test, it said.

Also, it confirmed that most arrivals will still need to be vaccinated and take two antigen tests, one in the firs two days of their visit and the other on day five or six.

The antigen tests will be provided on arrival at the airport.

The Foreign Office has yet to update its travel advice for New Zealand.

VOLUNTEERING IN AFRICA

At this exciting wildlife sanctuary volunteers have a rare opportunity to actively participate in the conservation, rehabilitation and research of African wildlife.

The award-winning sanctuary relies on volunteers to help achieve its mission to provide a safe refuge for orphaned, injured or ‘problem’ wildlife. They specialise in rescue and rehabilitation so that individuals, once ready, and where possible, are able to be returned to the wild – where this is not possible, they get to live out their days at the sanctuary in a safe and caring environment.

With guests and residents including cheetahs, baboons, leopards, lions and a host of smaller mammals and birds, this is an exceptional opportunity to get hands on with African wildlife and many aspects of their care. Volunteers play an important role, helping with feeding and cleaning duties as well as maintenance and development of the sanctuary. For a complete African wildlife experience, spend an additional week with conservationists at one of the remote research sites, monitoring elephants, carnivores and other animals in the wild.

AUSTRALIA TRAVEL UPDATE!
Big news from down under. This brings another long-awaited pandemic-era milestone, as Australia lifts all testing requirements for inbound international travelers.

“If you are departing to Australia on or after 18 April 2022, you will not need to undertake a COVID-19 test prior to travelling,” the Department of Home Affairs has declared on its website.
Previously, all overseas travelers bound for Australia, whether returning residents or visitors, were required to provide negative results from a COVID-19 PCR or other NAAT test taken within 72 hours of takeoff, or a negative rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of boarding their flight.

Proof of vaccination to enter Australia and masks will still be required on flights to Australia!

With Bali’s successful tourism industry, the demand for local English speakers has never been greater. Children may have the opportunity to learn some English, usually taught by a local Balinese teacher, but the benefits of practicing conversation with a native English speaker are significant. Balinese children are eager to learn and are a joy to teach.
Volunteers are encouraged to be creative with their methods of teaching – through games, songs, art, sport and music. If you are new to teaching, you may wish to team up with another volunteer, as two-three teachers in the classroom often works well. Your role is to encourage and inspire, but most importantly for teacher and students alike to enjoy the experience.

Your Bali experience starts with 5 days of exciting adventures and activities where we explore Ubud and its beautiful surrounding areas, before moving into the classroom from week 2 onwards. On this program, volunteers may be placed at a kindergarten, where the teaching is less formal, or at a local primary or high school delivering more structured lessons.

No mask? No worries!

You are no longer required to wear a mask on flights to and from the United States after a Florida Judge overturned the CDC.

Airlines will now be issuing guidance making mask wearing personal choice and will no longer enforce mask wearing on their aircraft.

The program will have you teaching at a school set up purposely to educate young and elderly women who cannot read or write.
You will be assisting them with extracurricular activities and inspire them to achieve their full potential and broaden their horizons through creatively structured lessons.

This project is specially focussed on women who have come to Kathmandu from rural areas to work as housemaids. Most of these female workers do not have even basic education and find it difficult to make life changes in a modern society where education is a fundamental for personal development.

Chetana Mahila Secondary School was established to empower women of all ages through education, improving their confidence, self assurance and independence. The main objective of this school is to motivate the younger and elder women to show their hidden talents.

Experience a different side of Buenos Aires as you help a local non-profit organisation working with the children of a disadvantaged inner city community. Volunteers will work at a community day-care program in a socially marginalised and impoverished area where, as a positive role model, you will inspire instant smiles on the faces of the kids you interact with.

The children are typically in school in the morning and spend the rest of the day at the community day-care centre, an important resource for families as it allows them to work whilst providing quality supervision for their kids. By attending this program the children are kept busy and away from the many negative influences which exist here. Some Spanish language ability will be of benefit, though it is certainly not a necessity as you’ll attend language lessons in the mornings and then practice your Spanish here at the project.

LEMUR AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

Get started teaching English abroad. You’ll be based on the island of Nosy Be, right next to Lokobe National Park, the last rainforest left on the island.

In the mornings, you’ll take a short walk to nearby rural communities to assist the local teachers with their primary school classes. You’ll work with them to prepare lesson plans and other resources to support the students in learning English and other subjects. In the evenings, you’ll work near our base to support Lokobe park rangers with conversational English classes.

This internship offers you the ability to gain experience in supporting a wide range of learners in a variety of settings. This means you’ll be able to learn a bunch of useful teaching skills. You can get involved in assisting established teachers, leading group classes and tutoring learners one-on-one.

Throughout your internship, you’ll be practicing your French, which is widely spoken here, and learning the Sakalava dialect of the local language, Malagasy. The country is historically and culturally complex and there will be opportunities to learn a little more about its diversity of distinct cultures. In addition, you’re welcome to visit the nearby rainforest and beach during your free time. Here, you’ll be able to spot critically endangered lemurs and sea turtles

TEACHING BUDDIST MONKS

A unique opportunity to make a difference to the lives of young Buddhist monks in Nepal, undoubtedly one of the most spectacular countries on earth. Buddhism was born, quite literally, in this mountainous kingdom and the colours, the sounds and the spiritual influence of Buddhism drive the culture and flavour of the country to this day.

You will immerse yourself in this gentle culture, experiencing the daily routines of monastery life and teaching different subjects including English to the young monks. No teaching experience is required – all we ask is a decent level of self-confidence and an easy-going, open-minded outlook. Your contribution here is both valuable and appreciated.

Learning the English language is considered very important for the 21st century monks of Nepal as a solid grasp of English enables them to be better connected with the outside world. You will also get a chance to learn about Buddhism while doing this.

Volunteers are placed in one of a selection of monasteries located in different locations around Nepal, from the outskirts of Kathmandu to the remote Everest region of the country. Wherever your location, your classes will be up to 40 young monks aged between 7 and 16, all eager to meet, interact and learn from you. You will work with the young monks of the monastery school, teaching for 2-4 hours each day 5 days per week.
