Aviation fuel price rises by 70%, international airlines may raise fares

The International Air Transport Association has said the price of jet fuel has continued to increase in recent weeks, with its price increasing by 70 per cent since the start of 2021.

According to IATA, the Switzerland-based trade organisation representing over 290 international airlines, the increase in Jet A1 price is putting pressure on airlines’ operating costs and threatening the industry’s profitability.

British Airways returns to United States as borders reopen

The lifting of US restrictions after more than 600 days means that fully vaccinated Britons are now able to travel freely between the two countries – something that has not happened since March 16th last year.

The changes have enabled British Airways to meaningfully re-start direct services to 17 US destinations.

A UK travel agent is currently under investigation following allegations that it was selling fake Covid test results to customers.

The company, which has not been named by authorities, is based in Bolton and was allegedly selling negative PCR test results claiming to be from a legitimate clinic.

Luton and Stansted Airport: Date for when double-jabbed Brits can travel without quarantining

The government plan to introduce quarantine-free travel for people who are fully vaccinated for the beginning of the school summer holidays.

Computer algorithms monitor search traffic and potentially customers’ locations and online browsing habits – making it harder for holidaymakers to get a good deal amid changing travel rules.

Holidaymakers hoping to book last-minute getaways to green list countries could be contending with more than just changing government guidelines this summer as secretive algorithms use our online habits to hike prices faster than the click of a mouse.

The Government is set to review its green list later this week with most popular European holiday destinations currently rated as amber, meaning holidaymakers have to self-isolate for 10 days on their return to the UK.

Speculation around previous announcements have already seen wild spikes in pricing, with some flights to Portugal increasing 10-fold ahead of the country being added to the green list last month.
