Stunning morning here at The Beach House. We’ve had a wonderful long weekend here - a much needed recharge after finishing my dissertation. I conducted a nesting bird survey of our hedges. Goldfinch, greenfinch, dunnock, tree sparrow, blackbirds and the obligatory pigeons are all having family time.

Beautiful but chilly morning
Would you be able to sign this petition (at the bottom of my rant) to support holiday let owners ?
I rarely get political however the budget rules change for holiday lets has been very ill thought out. Just like they have done with the buy to let market.
There are 2 reasons they have done this.
1 to appease locals who say they can no longer afford to buy in there home towns. And secondly to stop the empty houses only being used by the rich for short times leaving seaside towns empty.
I don’t mean to be unsympathetic but no one has a god given right to a property where they were born. I grew up in a council house in a very posh outer London area called Chigwell. I could never afford to live there or anywhere close that wasn’t a crime ridden den of iniquity area. Also all that will happen is true businesses like ours will sell up and wealthy characters will still buy the properties not worrying about the tax breaks still leaving properties mostly empty.. So all that will happen is there will be less holiday lets and prices will go up. Locals will be worse off, we currently employ local gardeners housekeepers builders window cleaners, our guest welcome pack is sourced locally and our guests spend their money locally. We are a bona fide business, we let our properties 365 days of the year. We rarely get to stay there ourselves. Many people run their holiday homes as full time income. For us, it’s our pension money. The impact on us is minimal in some cases as we are mortgage free but many will have to sell up. However we will no longer be able to afford to upgrade or update the property as we can no longer offset any costs like any other business would.
Anyway my rant is over. It would be great if you could sign the petition.

Meet the gorgeous Loki. He is staying at The Malthouse at Ranworth Broad. He enjoyed a day at the beach today, watched the seals and after a fabulous walk came home to snuggle up in front of the log fire. Sleep tight tonight Loki, tomorrow is another day of adventure.
