Ganed Dewi Sant yn 500 a bu farw ar 1 Mawrth – Dydd Gŵyl Dewi – yn 589. Ef yw unig nawddsant brodorol gwledydd Prydain ac Iwerddon. Mae'n debyg bod ei fam, y Santes Non, wedi rhoi genedigaeth iddo yn ystod storm! Dewi Sant oedd y ffigwr mwyaf yn Oes y Seintiau Cymreig yn y 6ed ganrif. Teithiodd ymhell ac agos, a sefydlodd ugeiniau o gymunedau crefyddol ledled Cymru a Lloegr. Mae gweddillion Tyddewi wedi’u claddu yn Eglwys Gadeiriol Tyddewi, Sir Benfro, lle’r oedd wedi ymgartrefu yn y pen draw a sefydlu cymuned grefyddol.

Cafodd Dewi Sant ei ganoneiddio gan y Pab Callixtus yn y 12fed ganrif, ac rydym wedi dathlu Dydd Gŵyl Dewi ers hynny.

St David was born in 500 and died on 1 March – St David’s Day - in 589. He is the only native-born patron saint of the countries of Britain and Ireland. Apparently his mother, St Non, gave birth to him during a storm! St David was the greatest figure in the 6th century Welsh Age of Saints. He travelled far and wide, and founded scores of religious communities across Wales and England. St David's remains are buried in St Davids Cathedral, Pembrokeshire, where he had eventually settled and established a religious community.

St David was canonised by Pope Callixtus in the 12th century, and we have celebrated St David’s Day ever since.

🌅 A spectacular location on Holy Island - Anglesey’s most westerly point.

⚓️ The lighthouse acts as a landmark for ships crossing the Irish Sea. You can see Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains on a clear day!

🪶 South Stack Cliffs is a RSPB Cymru reserve and is a wonderful place to watch seabirds including guillemots, razorbills and puffins.

Rydym wedi adnewyddu’r ystafell ymolchi fach, gwelyau sengl newydd, lloriau newydd a bwrdd bwyta a chadeiriau newydd, yn ogystal ac addurno’r bwthyn.

We have been very busy at the start of the new year completing work on the cottage!

We have renovated the ensuite bathroom, new single beds, new floors and new dining table and chairs, as well as decorating the cottage.

Sut daeth Santes Dwynwen yn nawddsant cariadon Cymru?
Dwynwen oedd y harddaf o 24 merch y Brenin Brychan Brycheiniog. Syrthiodd mewn cariad â bachgen lleol o'r enw Maelon Dafodrill, ond roedd y Brenin Brychan eisoes wedi trefnu iddi briodi tywysog arall. Cymerodd Maelon y newyddion yn ddrwg, felly ffodd y trallodus Dwynwen i'r coed i wylo, ac erfyn ar Dduw i'w helpu. Ymwelwyd â hi gan angel a roddodd ddiod melys iddi i'w helpu i anghofio Maelon, a ddigwyddodd i'w droi'n floc o rew.

Yna rhoddodd Duw dri dymuniad i Dwynwen. Ei dymuniad cyntaf oedd i Maelon gael ei ddadmer; ei hail ddymuniad oedd ar i Dduw gynnorthwyo pob gwir gariad ; ei thrydydd dymuniad oedd na fyddai hi byth yn priodi. Er diolch, daeth Dwynwen yn lleian a sefydlodd leiandy ar Ynys Llanddwyn, llecyn bach hardd ar Ynys Môn. Mae ei henw yn golygu, 'hi sy'n arwain bywyd bendigedig'.

Gyda llaw, yn ogystal â bod yn nawddsant cariadon Cymru, hi hefyd yw nawddsant anifeiliaid sâl.

Who was St Dwynwen?

God then granted Dwynwen three wishes. Her first wish was that Maelon be thawed; her second wish was for God to help all true lovers; her third wish was that she would never marry. In gratitude, Dwynwen became a nun and set up a convent on Llanddwyn Island, a beautiful little spot on Anglesey. Her name means, 'she who leads a blessed life'.

Incidentally, as well as being the Welsh patron saint of lovers, she's also the patron saint of sick animals.

Our new outdoor table has arrived! A table made locally, by local people, and by using quality and local materials.

It was created by Menter Fachwen, a charity that supports people with disabilities to develop skills, confidence and gain work experience.

We are delighted with the table and the new seating area 😍 perfect tor those summer evenings, and the views!

The Copper Kingdom

There are surprises around every corner in Anglesey, with one being The Copper Kingdom in Amlwch. It was once the largest copper mine in the world.

The unique landscape of Parys Mountain has to be seen to be believed - a swathe of peaks and troughs in every shade of yellow, brown and orange imaginable. In the 18th century, people came from all over the UK to dig for copper, prompting what came to be know as the Welsh Copper Rush. The visitor centre tells the stories of those that worked here in often dangerous conditions.

Nodyn bwysig / Important notice

Mae Pont Borth wedi cau i holl draffig ar gyfer cwblhau gwaith cynnal a chadw brys. Pan yn ymweld â Tregynrig Bach a Sir Fôn, defnyddiwch pont Britannia.

Menai Suspension Bridge has today been closed to all traffic for emergency repairs. When visiting Tregynrig Bach and Anglesey, please use the Britannia Bridge.

⚠️ Important traffic update - Menai Bridge - please share ⚠️

The Menai Bridge has closed for vehicles for essential maintenance work following advice from UK Highways engineers.

Significant risks have been identified during a recent inspection and we have been advised to close the bridge until essential works are completed.

It's expected the bridge will be closed until the new year and traffic will be diverted to the Britannia Bridge.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

Please help us share this message.

UPDATE for pedestrians and cyclists:

Following discussions with UK Highways and their structural experts, the footway across the bridge has been re-opened for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists.

People must remain on the pedestrian footways and numbers will be limited.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi ar Fawrth 1af yw diwrnod dathlu cenedlaethol y Cymry sef dyddiad gŵyl eu nawddsant, Dewi Sant.

Mae Dydd Gŵyl Dewi wedi’i ddathlu yma yng Nghymru ers y 12fed ganrif.

Mae ei eiriau olaf enwog yn dal yn berthnasol hyd yn oed heddiw;

“Byddwch lawen, cadwch y ffydd a gwnewch y pethau bychain yr ydych wedi eu clywed a'm gweld yn eu gwneud”

Sydd wedi eu bathu yn ddywediad poblogaidd iawn yma yng Nghymru.

“Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd”

Happy St Davids Day!

March the 1st is a very special day here in Wales as it’s the day we celebrate our patron saint, St David. St David’s Day has been celebrated here in Wales since the 12th century.
St David was born in the 6th century and legends say that he was born on a Pembrokeshire clifftop during a fierce storm, the spot is marked by a small ancient chapel, Capel Non named after his mother. Both his parents were said to be descended from Welsh Royalty with his grandfather being the King of Ceredigion.

His famous last words remain relevant even today;

“Be joyful, keep the faith and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do”

Which have been coined into a very popular saying here in Wales.

“Do the little things in life” | “Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd”

To celebrate St David’s day, the people of Wales will often be seen wearing one of the national emblems of Wales a daffodil or a leek, school children often dress up in traditional welsh costume and parades and concerts often take place throughout the country. And of course, no traditional Welsh celebration would be complete without some bara brith and welsh cakes!

Menai Suspension Bridge is 196! 🎉

The Menai Suspension Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Menai Strait between the island of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales. Designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1826, it was the world's first major suspension bridge.

The bridge still carries road traffic and is a Grade I listed structure.
