Day 28 On a lovely morning there is nowhere nicer for breakfast than the table in our sunny courtyard.
During this time of Covid we have changed from breakfast at the kitchen table by the Aga, to a luxury breakfast in a basket delivered to your room. You can choose to eat it there or bring it out to the garden table. Wherever you eat it, it’s still delicious!

Day 21
The kitchen.
Our breakfasts are all prepared here in the kitchen and guests can choose whether to eat in here, in the garden on a sunny morning or have a basket breakfast delivered to them in the cottage.

Day18 Bathroom.
This is our bathroom in one of our holiday cottages in Love Lane (what a romantic address!) We have used the quiet time of the lockdowns this year to add a few decorative touches.

Day15
Breakfast beverage.
Every morning we offer guests a choice of teas or fresh coffee with a delicious Bramley and Cox blend of apple juice from the fruit farm next to our previous home.

Day14 Outside space.
Our bed and breakfast cottage is hidden away from the busy street in the pretty courtyard behind our townhouse. This is the perfect place to relax, or to eat your breakfast on a sunny morning, and is filled with roses, a grapevine and a beautiful fig tree, and a 200 year old wisteria (just about to burst into bloom!) A little corner of the Mediterranean in the centre of Canterbury!

Day 10
Fruit dish. We serve fresh fruit to our guests every morning and try to have something seasonal from the allotment all year round — something of a challenge sometimes!
This is porridge with roasted spiced plums and pistachios but other favourites include blackberry and apple compote (a family favourite!), spiced blueberries, fresh raspberries and strawberries, rhubarb and vanilla, winter apricot and fig compote and spiced cranberry porridge.

Day 5 .
Local activity.
Canterbury has welcomed visitors and pilgrims for many centuries and there is still so much to see and do.
The city itself boasts 2 Unesco World Heritage sites: the Cathedral and St. Augustine’s Abbey with St. Martin’s Church, but its quaint streets are full of history too.
It is a perfect base for exploring the East Kent coastal towns and walks.

Day4 Fruit dish. Rhubarb ready for baking, to eat with homemade granola and yogurt, but is rhubarb really a fruit? And should I add ginger, orange or vanilla? Too many choices!
We offer our guests fruit from our allotment every morning and cannot wait for the spring rhubarb to grow and the fresh fruit season to start again.

Day 2 Exterior shot. This is our one bedroom B and B cottage tucked away in the courtyard behind our house. We believe it is 15th century and predates our Georgian house by about 300 years!
My husband’s family has lived in Canterbury since at least 1609 and we have some land deeds which show this street of the city in 1709 as being a typical row of gabled medieval houses. Some disaster must have happened shortly after that time which wiped out the whole row, but our tiny backyard cottage survived.

Day1 Last year you may remember I just had bare feet so this year I thought I’d find some jazzy shoes! It’s time to meet the Innkeeper, so a bit about me: I am Ursula and hate having my photo taken so it’s just my feet! I have been running my B and B in historic Canterbury for 14 years and love everything about it. We have a bijou 15th century cottage in the courtyard behind our Georgian townhouse which is the perfect weekend bolthole to explore the city.
My other loves: reading, cooking, horse riding and talking (a bit too much!)

John and Ann Smith’s almshouses just up the road from us were endowed by John and Ann Smith in gratitude for the birth of a child after 20 years of childlessness. A lovely thing to be able to do! They have provided homes for needy people since they were built in 1657 and are just one of eight sets of almshouses in Canterbury still providing housing today.
