Esala Perahera (the festival of the tooth) is the grand festival of Esala held in Sri Lanka. It is very grand with elegant costumes. Happening in July or August in Kandy, it has become a unique symbol of Sri Lanka. It is a Buddhist festival consisting of dances and nicely decorated elephants. There are fire-dances, whip-dances, Kandian dances and various other cultural dances. The elephants are usually adorned with lavish and spectacular garments. Experience White Water Rafting in Sri Lankat's picturesque Rivers, covering 5 major rapids and 4 minor rapids. This activity is for anyone above the legal age of 10 years with safety gear provided, modern rafts, and comprehensive safety briefings by professional white water rafting instructors beforehand. The distance covered is usually around 5 KMs. The rivers and their surroundings will make you feel enchanted, with a memorable Experience. The Indian Ocean surrounding Bentota Sri Lanka is rich with Tuna, Jack Fish, Red & White Snappers, Barracuda, sharks, groupers and the stunning Wahoo, making a sunny morning spent deep sea fishing here a fantastic experience. Sri Lankan cuisine has been shaped by many historical, cultural and other factors. Contact with foreign traders who brought new food items, cultural influences from neighbouring countries as well as the local traditions of the country's ethnic groups among other things have all helped shape Sri Lankan cuisine. Influences from Indian(particularly South Indian), Indonesian and Dutch cuisines are most evident with Sri Lankan cuisine sharing close ties to other neighbouring South and Southeast Asian cuisines. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
The elephant bathing and viewing area along the Oya River is directly opposite on the west side of the highway. Tourists can observe the bathing elephants from the broad riverbank as the herd interacts socially, bathing and playing. The orphanage is open to the public daily, and all admission fees are used to look after the elephants.
