Coast to Coast Italy 1st - 5th August 2024.

After much deliberation about the average temperatures in August, we decided to run this incredible ride earlier this month.

The MET Office was not lying, with temperatures in the upper 30's, we knew we had an extra challenge ahead.

"Very early mornings and zero faffing" featured heavily in the trip briefing. Our aim was to get to our hotels each evening before the main heat of the day really struck.

10 riders set off from Rimini on the east coast of Italy and three days of riding later they arrived at the west coast near Pisa.

Without doubt the hottest conditions we've ever run a trip in...we'll stick to May and September for this one in future we reckon!!!

A massive congratulations to the whole team, it was a joy to see you and ride with you all again and we hope to see you on another trip in the future!

A little less snow than today's Le Tour de France, but reaching the summit of the Galibier has to be up there with the best experiences in the world.
Way back in 2018 (where does time go?!), these guys completed an epic journey through the French Alps from Ventoux to Alpe D'Huez.
Today we're watching the riders blast up and down it, making it look a little too easy for our liking 🤣.

They made it! All fourteen riders from arrived yesterday under the Eiffel Tower 🇫🇷 having ridden 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ 240 miles in just three days.

They cycled to Portsmouth, got the overnight ferry to Caen, then pedalled a further two days to Versailles and the Eiffel Tower.

In doing so they fundraised for , and 🙏.

A massive congratulations to the whole team, what a huge achievement. I hope you're enjoying your day in Paris 🇫🇷 and some time out of the saddle.

Earlier this month we had the absolute pleasure of supporting 14 riders from Group Metropolitan undertaking a gruelling 225 mile ride from their office in Warrington to their office at Canary Wharf, London.

In doing so, they raised over £60,000 for , an amazing charity raising awareness and funds to fight Retts Syndrome.

It was an extremely emotional andoving ride as we were joined along the way with Lily, a four-year old courageous girl who has Retts Syndrome, and her family. They supported us along the way and encouraged the team until the very end.

Upon arriving into Canary Wharf, Lily was escorted by bicycle over the finish line 🏁, a fitting end to a massive challenge.

Congratulations to the whole team from Group Metropolitan. Epic.

And before you ask...yes George rode the whole thing on a full-suspension mountain bike 😳.

36 riders from set off from Regent's Park and rode for three days through England 🇬🇧 and Northern France 🇫🇷.

We took the route via Newhaven, stopping in Brighton and crossing over to Dieppe 🇫🇷. Once in France they zipped along the Avenue Verte 🟩 via Gournay-en-Bray and finished under the Eiffel Tower.

Some highlights (and lowlights 😂) included:

☑️ Climbing the iconic Ditchling Beacon before descending to Brighton
☑️ A well deserved few beers in Brighton
☑️ Zipping along the traffic free Avenue Verte from Dieppe 🇫🇷
☑️ Fixing countless punctures and a bent derailleur with the help of
☑️ Selfies at the Arc de Triomphe
☑️ Taking those all important photos of the team under the Eiffel Tower 🗼

Here's how to plot a route using Strava: https://youtu.be/hgSn6xmoQRc

Strava is a great tool for plotting routes as it uses data from other users to decide on which roads and routes to take. In this video we look at creating a route using Strava and how to navigate and use the in-built menu options.

Back in 2018 I formulated a plan to ride from the UK to Istanbul, the first leg of which would be London to Paris, the second being Paris to Geneva etc etc...

Well, we're just about to confirm the second leg of this incredible journey and you can join us in September 2024: https://www.moreadventure.co.uk/event/paris-to-geneva-cycle/

Here's what Sally thought of the trip in September 2023:

"I have just returned from Paris to Geneva - a 5 star trip .. challenging, tough and definitely a trip you must train for!! We had fun evening’s lovely restaurants sharing stories from our days riding through some of the most amazing countryside, villages etc. 1st Class is a word that comes to mind"

Here's what to expect from the Paris to Geneva ride:

- 4 days cycling
- Vineyards of Burgundy & Champagne
- Bicycle transfers from London to Paris
- Bicycle transfers back from Geneva to the UK

This ride begins directly underneath the Eiffel Tower. Over four days cycling you'll ride through French towns, the stunning vineyards of Burgundy and the jaw dropping scenery of the Jura mountains.

The ride ends on the banks of Lake Geneva where your bicycle will be transferred back to London.

We couldn't agree more with Cyclist magazine...Wales is a cyclist's paradise. Here's what Julie had to say about her time on our Cycling in Eryri/Snowdonia trip:

"What a few days! Sunshine, blue skies, mountains, great company, fantastic routes, breathtaking views and all just 3 hours from home! Just the best time spent not worrying about life and taking in the wonders of Wales and all it has to offer. 😁Another exceptional trip, well thought out and planned to give the best cycling experience. I'd happily do this trip again next week"

We've still got places on a trip here in May, check it out here: https://www.moreadventure.co.uk/event/cycling-in-snowdonia-and-anglesey/

For Cyclists who dream of riding hard climbs with dreamy scenery, sea views, good food and world-class culture, Wales is the place to go

Just going to leave this here...

A few years ago I formulated a plan. Most people don't have the time to ride for weeks on end.

But what if a really long distance (say London to Istanbul!!!) could be broken down into segments of 4-5 days riding?

It sounds crazy but hear me out.
- London to Paris (France)
- Paris to Geneva (Switzerland)
- Geneva to Milan (Italy)
- Milan to Ljubljana (Slovenia)
- Ljubljana to Dubrovnik (Croatia)
- Dubrovnik to Thessaloniki (Greece)
- Thessaloniki to Istanbul (Turkey)

A quick ferry ride across the Bosphorus strait and you've cycled to Asia. Suddenly it doesn't sound so crazy right?

What do you think? Hit reply and let me know!

Pedals - Road vs MTB pedal myth courtesy of Adrian Timmis at Adrian Timmis Cycling - Cadence Sport.

Way back in 2016, Tom visited Adrian for a bike fit, you can read about his visit on this blog: https://moreadventure.co.uk/bike-fits-are-they-that-important/

BIKEFITTING - Road vs MTB pedal myth on a road bike

I often get asked especially from people who don’t race should they use road pedals or MTB on a road bike, because more often than not they are told to use road pedals because you’ll get more power out as there’s more surface area to push through across the pedal spindle vs a MTB pedal.

The size of a SPD vs SPD SL cleat is obviously different, but as you’ll see from the photo the rubber MTB sole actually makes up for that by contacting the pedal surface, the rubber coloured bits on SPD SL road cleats make them look wider but the rubber bits don’t actually contact the surface area of the pedal, they are there to protect the cleat as you walk around and avoid slipping around as waddle around.

If you want to use a MTB pedal on a road bike go for it, you can get good looking MTB shoes that don’t look out of place on a road bike, Shimano top end MTB shoes from the top look no different than their road shoe and the sole will be as stiff as the equivalent Road shoe.

MTB pedals are easier to clip in and walk around, plus you won’t need to replace the cleats as much if you have a habit of dragging your foot along as you come to a stop or scoot your foot along to get going, plus for what ever reason you walk around a lot on a plastic cleat.

The SPD pedal in the photo is an XTR and as you can see the contact area is the same as SPD SL, 6.5cm, they are mine and I’m loving riding them on the road.

On a side note if the surface area produces more power why are riders choosing Speedplay pedals.

Coast to Coast Italy - NEW DATE ADDED FOR SUMMER 2024!

"It was a fabulous experience from start to finish. The route was challenging but manageable, there were a range of abilities in the group, and it worked well for all. Highlights included some great climbs, cycling through Florence and Pisa, and of course arriving at Marina di Pisa in beautiful sunshine" Sophie, 2022

Since 2020 we've run numerous cycling adventures in North Wales and the feedback has always been amazing. It's a unique region of the UK, a contrast of magnificent mountains and jaw-dropping coastline. There's challenging climbs, epic descents, and everything in between.
