I am very much looking forward to leading the popular Three Reservoirs and Turton Tower guided walk on Saturday 22nd March in the West Pennine Moors. You can visit www.moorstomountains.co.uk/three-reservoirs to read more.

This route always gets lots of really positive feedback with participants being particularly fond of the varied scenery and historical interest that I like to discuss over the course of the day. There are now JUST THREE SPACES LEFT.

As this activity takes place in my local area and doesn't involve any mountain terrain, spaces are available at just £15.00 per person. It's a full day out and there will be a chance to stop at Turton Tower Woodland Cafe for snacks and refreshments. This is also a popular walk due to being very accessible via Entwistle train station.

Please lick onto www.moorstomountains.co.uk/three-reservoirs link to read more or book your space.

A few interesting books that have found their way to me recently. I'm not really into ficton and have always found myself engrossed in factual books about subjects that interest me. Just need to actually make some time where I can get stuck into these.

I saw Robin Harford's Eatweeds via an online advert and decided to give it a spin. Just before lockdown, I became very into the idea of foraging, so bought a few guidebooks and went on a guided mushroom forage with Forest Horizons. Covid kinda curtailed that and I've been busy focusing on M2M ever since but I'd like to delve back into the field, which will also help me to make my guided walks even more interesting for you guys. This looks like a really concise book and is presented in a clear format, looking forward to it.

Mountain Days and Bothy Nights by Luath Press is a classic book that I've been meaning to pick up for YEARS. A friend recommended it to me back in 2016 when I was really getting into staying in bottles around Scotland, and I've heard so many people reference it since. Thanks to Dave Parsnip for digging this out and loaning it to me.

The Lakeland Quiz Book looks like a lot of fun! This was an Xmas gift from my mum and dad (thank you 🙂) and seems packed with loads of cool trivia. I'm sure it will cause much amusement next time me and my friends have chance to get together for a hostelling or bunkhouse trip. It'll go well alongside the Wainwright Top Trumps haha.

Hey everybody! I'm just reaching out to those who I have spoken with in person who said they would like to contribute some spoken dialogue about how joining my guided walks or coming out with the Bolton walking group has had a positive impact on them.

Over recent weeks, I have been compiling footage towards a very rough and amateur project I am putting together for Lancashire Adventure Film Festival. The content is going to make the film work is real accounts from real people. I've already got some interviews scheduled in over the next couple of weeks but the more positive stories that I can share, the more views will be able to relate and, hopefully, feel inspired.

Most of the people this post is aimed at will have my personal contact details so please give me a shout. Or you can email [email protected] any time and we can get something arranged.

The LAFF event itself is taking place at Rock Over Climbing in Lostock near Bolton on Saturday 8th February. It is primarily aimed at people who are interested in climbing and bouldering, there will be exciting films from prominent members of the Lancashire climbing community with talks and presentations. The £9.00 entry fee includes access to the bouldering wall while the centre is open. Definitely worth checking out!

THURSDAY 2nd JANUARY 2025 - Wansfell Pike from Waterhead.

⛰️ Wansfell Pike (482m).

🥾 9km, or 5.5 miles, with 550m ascent.

⏱️ 3 hours.

Another fine day on the 2nd January allowed for a quick morning jaunt up to the hill of Odin himself, Wansfell. Heading straight out of the YHA, it was a simple case of following Lake Road, Old Lake Road and then a path that should be a bridleway above Kelsick before turning off and taking the "main" climb that leads from behind Stockghyll Force up to the Pike.

It was a very beautiful morning with a layer of frost on the ground and some slippery, compacted ice on the path up to Wansfell Pike. Once atop the hill, the views were so clear and it was nice to stand in the warming sunshine to enjoy the scenery.

I needed to get some footage for the LAFF project that I'm trying to put together. So, it had been decided to head off the beaten track to a little but prominent undulation at the 450m contour just 400m south west of the summit of Baystones. This provided a nice, quiet vantage point to stand and talk to the GoPro with an epic backdrop looking west into Langdale, over the Conston and Scafell ranges.

A simple descent was made down the hillside, picking up the track than runs east of Stock Ghyll between Ambo and the Kirkstone Inn. Walking back into town was straight forward enough, other than some very dangerous sections of ice.

Not exactly the most strenuous walk but it was another wonderful Lakeland day with nice weather conditions and spectacular scenery.

I was looking forward to heading out tonight in the West Pennine Moors with Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society on the first Wednesday outing of 2025. HOWEVER, the very responsible decision has been made to cancel the walk due to severe icy conditions on the roads and paths.

This walk will be rescheduled to Wednesday 5th February.

It was to be a fairly easy low level route involving Wayoh reservoir, Armsgrove Clough, a section of the Witton Weavers' Way and Chapeltown. The walk will start and finish at The Black Bull, which is a lovely pub nestled in Edgworth village.

I have been involved with the walking group for almost fourteen years now. It's a really nice bunch of people and although I only have time to get on on the Wednesdays, there are also free walks on Monday evenings. If you are in the area and might be interested in learning more, have a look at Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society for more information.

My first guided activity of 2025 is this popular route around Derwentwater, Walla Crag and Castlerigg. Offering varied terrain and scenery, there are lots of cool locations to visit and interesting topics to share with you along the way.

Taking place on Saturday 8th March, this is a fairly accessible walk for anybody with good mobility and a reasonable level of fitness. As well as taking in one modest summit, there is a nice Lakeside stretch, some steeper moorland terrain and a visit to the ancient neolithic site of Castlerigg Stone Circle.

There are still a handful of spaces left at £33.00 per person. Please click on to https://www.moorstomountains.co.uk/derwent-water-walla-crag for more information or to book your space.

WEDNESDAY 1st JANUARY 2025 - Loughrigg and Rydal Caves from Waterhead.

⛰️ Loughrigg (335m).

🥾 13km, or 8 miles, with 370m ascent.

⏱️ 4 hours 20 minutes.

Blowing away the cobwebs with friends on New Year's Day. This easy walk ended up being very enjoyable with "all seasons in one day", as the saying goes. The forecast was for consistent rain and we left the YHA fully waterproofed and prepared for the worst. However, it was mild and actually sunny. There was quite extensive flooding around Clappersgate and Galava Fort, but nothing out of the ordinary considering the previous night's deluge.

We were soon climbing up the south side of Loughrigg, which was a sweaty affair. Langdale had been shrouded in a black and grey swirl of cloud since breakfast and wasn't looking any better, although views to the Fairfield Horseshoe, Red Screes, Wansfell and the Kentmere fells were pleasant enough. Windermere was almost watercolour in appearance through the sunlit drizzle.

Once up on the higher undulations and around the summit, we were treated to an epic vista with a double rainbow and beautiful sunshine. Finally, the full panorama from Weatherlam across Pike o Blisco, Bowfell, to the Langdale Pikes and beyond was laid before us in sunshine. The next forty minutes or so was a real beautiful experience, with such nice views accompanied with dramatic clouds and lighting, drizzle, heavier rain, hail and freezing cold blasts of wind. Great fun!

It was decided to meander down to Loughrigg Terrace and head along to Rydal Caves. Busy, as expected, but always worth sticking one's head in. From here, it was a simple case of following the River Rothay via the Under Loughrigg lane back to Waterhead. Again, there was a lot of flooding around the low lying fields with the river in spate.

Another fantastic Lakeland experience to remember forever. Sometimes, a mooch up one of the smaller fells can be just what is needed to refresh body and mind while inspiring future goals for 2025.

Had a really nice time in Ambleside with friends over the last few days. Once the new year celebration had been enjoyed, weather conditons drastically improved allowing for some scenic walks and a chance for me to gather some more footage towards my film project for Lancashire Adventure Film Festival.

There is more content to share with you all but here are a couple of snaps I took around YHA Ambleside. The first sunset of 2025 over Windermere from just outside the door, which was beautiful. And the second photo was a chilly dusk on the eve of January 2nd from just next to the ferry terminal. Saturn, Venus and the Moon were in an almost perfect 45° east to west formation against the clear sky. Both wonderful sights to behold.

More to follow in the coming days. Register your interest for 2025 guided walks in the Lake District by emailing [email protected], or stay posted to www.moorstomountains.co.uk and my socials for forthcoming announcements.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish all my clients, social media followers, friends and other outdoor acquaintances a very happy NYE. Hope you all enjoy the celebrations and that we can all look forward to an inspiring and wholesome 2025 ahead.

It's been a really busy year and I am very grateful to all the participants who have booked onto my guided walks, especially those individuals who have taken time to provide very kind and positive feedback, or felt compelled to book for 2025 already. The gestures of support from the wider community have been encouraging beyond any words I can form, including those businesses and organisations who have let me use advertising space to display my promotional materials. And of course, I really appreciate all the merchandise sales that have helped to elevate my brand and boost everything that M2M is designed to achieve.

There hasn't been much M2M content this last week or so due to me being afflicted with a vile plague that has drastically affected my work schedule. However, I'm coming back around to normality again and slowly catching up with various jobs. Stay posted for updates coming your way in 2025.

You can head to www.moorstomountains.co.uk so see what professionally guided activities are being advertised for March. Please feel free to add yourself to my mailing list or just send an enquiry over if you'd like to discuss how my services may be of benefit to you.

All the best guys! COLIN.

First day out after recovering from plague. Its a bit murky on the moors but managed to get a nice warming hot chocolate from The Pike Snack Shack mmmmmmmmm 😋🥤.

Lost quite a few days where I should have be out filming in the Lakes for the Lancashire Adventure Film Festival project. Did my best to get some footage in the West Pennine Moors today and, if anything, the misty moorland scenes will do nicely for emphasising why navigation skills are so important and maybe I'll get the Rivington Headless Horseman story in there somehow.

SEASON'S GREETINGS EVERYBODY!

Hope all my followers, friends and acquaintences out there have enjoyed a fantastic Xmas, or whatever festivities you choose to celebrate, and are looking forward to NYE.

I've been meaning to post this for over a week but being busy and then afflicted with a plague have got in the way. Just wanted to give a special THANK YOU to any clients and members of the walking group who were behind this selection of gifts received over recent weeks. I really do appreciate the gestures and want to personally acknowledge how grateful I am. Cheers guys 🙂❤️.

See you all in 2025 up on the Moors and in the Mountains. COLIN.

WEDNESDAY 18th DECEMBER 2024 - Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal from Darcy Lever.

⛰️ No summits, high point 90m.

🥾 7.2km, or just over miles, with 90m ascent.

⏱️ 1 hours 50 minutes.

My last outing with the local walking group for this year. Thank you to everybody who made it along for a really enjoyable night once again! I always enjoy giving up a little free time to attend these outings every Wednesday.

Our trek was very easy and led around Moses Gate Country Park, the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal and the Darcy Lever Gravel Pits. There was also complimentary hot food at The Volunteer afterwards. It rained all night, but not heavily and nobody in attendance was bothered.

There will be other walks taking place over the coming weeks but I'm not able to attend them. Please visit Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society for further details.

If you are interested in climbing or outdoor adventure, you might be interested in coming along to Lancashire Adventure Film Festival, taking place on Saturday 8th February at Rock Over Climbing in Lostock, Bolton.

There will be full access to the bouldering walls from 17:00 with films and talks beginning at 19:00. There will be pieces from climbing enthusiasts and it's a nice laid back vibe. I myself will be delivering a very short amateur project on the benefits that outdoor activities can provide, whether in a physical, psychological or social context.

A "Bouldering Bingo" competition will be taking place and there will also be food, drinks and plenty of banter.

Had a bit of a production line going last weekend as I was personally writing out and sending Xmas cards to clients who have joined me for M2M activities this year. You should by now have all received them and I just want to once again thank everybody for choosing to book me for a guided walking experience - hope to see you all again in 2025.

Also, cheers to Howfen Graphics for printing my card design and custom M2M envelopes.

For over thirteen years now, I have been involved with Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society on a voluntary basis. I enjoy giving up some of my free time to have an input and try to make a positive difference to people's lives, whether that is physically, psychologically, socially or in any other small way. TONIGHT is going to be the last Wednesday walk of 2024 and I'd just like to thank everybody who has been coming along over the course of this year and being such an awesome bunch of people to spend a mid week evening out and about walking around my local area with.

This route is very easy but always very popular, taking in Moses Gate Country Park, a section of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal and then the Darcy Lever Gravel Pits. Gal and all the staff at the Volunteer in Darcy Lever always give us a hearty welcome, and I am told there is complimentary chilli, tatty ash and black peas to tuck into after the walk.

If you are in the Bolton or South Lancs area and would be interested in learning more, please check out www.facebook.com/boltonwalkingandoutdoors. There are free walks every Monday and Wednesday evenings, with some occasional weekend outings.

You can also head to www.moorstomountains.co.uk any time to see what professionally guided walks I have coming up from March onwards.

Cheers everybody!

So in between other jobs this weekend, I managed to find time to pack up all the latest merchandise orders and get them along to the post office. If you have placed an order then your goods should be with you imminently, or we will have arranged local collection.

Since filming this video, some lines have now depleted but I still have the classic M2M beanies in most colours, army caps in all colours, baseball caps and trucker caps in some colours and a handful of snoods left... please have a look on www.moorstomountains.co.uk/merchandise to browse or place an order. Any items in stock are available for IMMEDIATE despatch or free local collection.

I am incredibly grateful to all your guys who have made a purchase, the level of support has been amazing. Not only is my logo and brand getting represented out on the hills but each sale helps me to deliver the best possible service through Moors to Mountains. Thank you all so very much.

On Saturday 29th March, I have decided to advertise the Great Ridge of Edale. This is an exciting guided walk in the Dark Peak that is very achievable for anybody with a reasonable level of fitness while offering a fun hilltop traverse with beautiful scenery.

The Great Ridge is a stunning walk. Not only is there lots of natural beauty to take in, there is so much history and geological interest to discuss, including some particularly interesting examples that I will point out over the day.

If you'd like to read more about this activity, you can do so by clicking on to www.moorstomountains.co.uk/the-great-ridge where it also also possible to book your space/s.
