The heart of Hollybank House is our main family lounge.

After a day spent on the hill or the water, it provides our guests with everything they might need to power down and relax. Large Italian made sofas section the double height lounge and the expansive interior glass makes the most of the changing sunlight as it travels from east to west across the loch. Rainbows, clouds and sunsets are one of the most entrancing features of spending a day loch gazing at Hollybank.

Our guests were treated to a magnificent display of the Northern lights during their stay with us last week!

The Aurora Borealis, sometimes know as the northern lights.

Aurora is the Roman goddess of dawn and Boreas is the Greek term for the north wind, hence the name Aurora Borealis.

Humans have been fascinated by Northern Lights for centuries, and there are many stories linked to them.

The Inuit people believed the lights were spirits of their ancestors playing a game with a walrus skull used as the ball. While according to Finnish folklore a mystical arctic fox is running in the north and touching the mountains with its fur causing sparks to fly off into the sky.

No two light displays are the same, the colour and patterns always differ. It’s a common misconception the Northern Lights only come out at certain times, however, they’re always there. It’s the changing sky conditions that make them visable.

The lodge is ideal for a romantic getaway, a base camp for adventure seekers, or a hideaway for the smaller family. It’s also a great escape for Nanna and Papa if both houses are being used by one big family!
