Anyone up for a road trip? This is the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes walk of the Paparoa National Park on the West Coast of New Zealands South Island. The blowholes are created by surging waves flowing into air cavities between the layers of rocks and creating spouting blowholes that can reach up to 40m high. The park has lush native forests, hidden coves and rugged mountains to explore and if you're that way inclined how about a hike. Papaora Track is a 55km long Great Walk of New Zealand and takes three-days. Personally I'd lean towards the 1.4km Truman track out to the cliffs and a waterfall on the coast.

Happy Leap Day!

Did you know that Anthony, Texas is the self-proclaimed “Leap Year Capital of the World”?

Every Leap Day it holds a 4-day festival that includes a big birthday party for people born on Leap Day.

But Texas has plenty to offer even if your birthday isn't 29th Feb. It's a state that is big and bold. With vast cities including Austin- live music capital of the world- and Houston where you can imagine you're an astronaut about to take off on a lunar mission at the Space Centre. For a taste of western heritage, Dallas and Fort Worth are the place to go.

Getting off the beaten track when it comes to a safari itinerary can open you up to incredible wildlife encounters whilst avoiding the crowds. I work with tour providers who operate with small numbers and boutique locations so you'll really get to the heart of the countries you're visiting as well as having a world-class safari experience to remember for a lifetime.

Take this Botswana itinerary which takes 9 nights/10 days and takes you from the Delta to the Zambezi. Are you confined by school holiday dates? If so then now's the time to be thinking about booking ahead for the latter part of the year to make the most of flight prices and plentiful accommodation options.

Great options for October half term include:
🇲🇽 Mexico- a long haul option but almost guaranteed sun and a great mixture of resort accommodation and cultural experiences. This year you can also take advantage of being there during the Day of the Dead celebrations
🇨🇾 Cyprus is usually still a good bet for sun in late October. Opt for a hotel with entertainment options should the weather take a cooler turn
🇵🇹 Keep your flight time down and head to the Algarve for a chilled week by the sea
🇦🇬 Antigua- Great all-rounder for the whole family with sun, sea and sand on offer as well as exciting adventure activities and plentiful Caribbean culture to make the most of

Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia is on its way to becoming one of the world's most popular hiking holiday destinations, offering mountains, glaciers, and lakes in abundance in a mostly unspoilt awe-inspiring location. For those seeking an active holiday, the area offers treks of all difficulties including the hike to the base of the iconic towers, the Glacier Grey trek, the trek to Los Cuernos and the Valle Francés (French Valley).

Jaw-dropping landscapes rub shoulders with native wildlife in this granite and glacial kingdom. The triple towers of the Torres del Paine, recognisable from first glance alone, are just the pinnacle of the park. There are also grasslands to explore, glacial valleys with wildflower meadows and rivers that surge with ice and escape to lagoons. And wildlife lovers will find something round every corner- there are native geese, guanaco and puma to spot, particularly in the low season (April to October).

Nights are made for star-gazing in this area and depending on whether you want to go natural with glamping options or opt for first-class lodge accommodation, there is something for everyone.

Getting off the beaten track can feel daunting and scary if you've never visited a country before. South Korea is an inspiring country to get lost in and find the heart and soul of local towns, landscapes and people. Gwangju is a fabulous place to start this adventure. A place where tourists don't often reach so you'll get a real sense of true Korean life.

On your travels you can find a peculiarly named village; Penguin village which rose to fame in the 70s and 80s when it transformed from almost abandoned to a mural art district falloff creativity and curiosities.

At Yangnim history and culture village you'll find quirky street art as well as inspiring Korean architecture and plenty of cafes to sit and watch the world go by in. It makes an ideal spring board from which to explore Korea's rural south-west where you can explore tea plantations and bamboo forests.

Is 'take a bullet train through Japan' on your 2024 travel bucket list?

With over 2,800km of tracks, the Shinkansen or 'bullet train' line speeds through the country linking the northern tip of the main island, Honshu, to the southernmost reaches of Kyushu Island.

Traveling at 199mph is an experience in itself - rocketing you to destinations throughout Japan with ease. Queue politely ready to get on board before taking your seat. You'll be surprised at the smooth and quiet ride as the outside whizzes past the window. Conductors bow at they enter each carriage and you'll be able to take advantage of the refreshment trolley as it passes by ladened with bento boxes and cans of Japanese beer.

Using the bullet train means the journey from Tokyo to Kyoto takes Amber 2 hours 15 mins to cover the 28 miles journey. 2024 marks another extension to the line with the Hokuriku extension), meaning you can reach new or lesser explored destinations too.

It's hard to show just how steep those hills are and the weather is so changeable, you could wear your entire wardrobe in a day. It was great to explore and it was helped by some interesting transport...more on that to follow.

Well, this is a new one to add to my bucket list - riding the Chepe Express from Creel to the coast in Mexico through the Copper Canyon. The gorge is four times larger than the Grand Canyon and passengers on the 9-hour train journey are treated to breathtaking scenery and exceptional service.

Just back from a few fun-filled days in Porto. The sun did not shine, but that didn't stop us from getting out to the beach, visiting Mercado do Bolhao, tasting the port and eating the local delicacies...including beef wellington. One of my favourite places - @paperbark_camp at Jervis Bay is just a couple of hours south of Sydney. It's offers glamping and then some! Proper beds (some are four poster no less) in the raised safari tents and excellent food served in the Gunyah provides all the comfort you might want and yet you're still completely immersed in nature. We had several kangaroos pass by for a visit and a possum that made us all jump in the dark 🤣 Stand up paddle boarding on the creek and cycling to the beach at Huskisson were highlights for me, but there's plenty of other activities to enjoy or just kick back and relax in the open-air bath

Come with me and my family on our walk around Fes. What a place! It's a vibrant Moroccan city, fully of history, culture and delicious food. I would highly recommend visiting a hammam (steam baths) and taking a tour of the maze-like medina (the word medina means city or town in Arabic).
