We did this a couple of weeks ago from Skye, great lunch at the Glenelg Inn and over to Arnisdale, beautiful views.

By far my favourite way to reach the Isle of Skye is via the Glenelg to Kylerhea ferry. A ferry has been transporting cars between Glenelg on the mainland and Skye since 1934. The route itself is much older though, being the narrowest point between Skye and Mainland Scotland.

The existing ferry, MV Glenachulish was launched in 1969 and is the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world. It runs daily between Easter and October and there’s no need to book in advance. It’s by far the best way to reach Skye. Over the years we’ve spotted harbour porpoise, seals and white tailed eagles during the short crossing.

We’ll be staying in Glenelg for part of our summer holiday this year, so will be hopping back on the ferry for another visit to Skye.

We are appealing for witnesses following a report of haggis poaching this morning, between Lochdubh and Dunbracken.

The haggis hunting season runs from 21st October to 31st March.

As today is 01st April, it is currently illegal to hunt wild haggis.

PC Hamish MacBeth of Lochdubh Police Station said "the wild haggis is a native Scottish species and it's population is strictly controlled. Hunting them out of season threatens the wider ecosystem and the entire haggis species"

DI Jimmy Perez of Lerwick Police Station has been temporarily seconded from Shetland CID to lead the investigation.

My second favourite Distiller!

This week, we are delighted to introduce you to the comedic genius within our team, Donald Macleod - known to us all as Domhnall (Gaelic for Donald).

A true Hearach, hailing from the little coastal village of Scadabay on the east of Harris.

Prior to joining the distillery team, Domhnall honed his skills as a bricklayer which is a testament to his hardworking nature and dedication.

In 2015, Domhnall became one of our 'Tarbert 10', a group of individuals who began our story from the outset. As one of the original distillers, he played a pivotal role in crafting our island spirits.

In 2022, Domhnall moved to the Warehouse Team, where he now supports the process of cask management and maturation between our distillery in Tarbert and our warehouses in Ardhasaig.

When asked what the best thing about working at the distillery is, he told, "All the folk working with me are lovely, the camaraderie and atmosphere is great... our whisky and gin isn't too shabby either!"
