Ferragosto' name (mining mid-August) comes from Latin, meaning Augustus' holiday, set up by the first Roman Emperor, as the day when all the work related to the wheat harvest was finished, on the 15 August. The famous Palio di Siena, on the 16 August, is linked to this concept too.
