Privet Hawkmoth
There are some fantastic moths around at the moment in Purbeck and we've seen lots of Jersey Tiger moths over the last couple of weeks.
🦋
But how about this beautiful Privet Hawk moth - one of the UK's largest moths, spotted resting in the grass yesterday?!

Winter wonderland - at least for a day!
It was great to get out across a very cold and wintry Isle of Purbeck this week. We came across a little group of Mangalitsa pigs foraging in the trees at Slepe Copse as we trundled slowly through the wood - it was quite magical to see them and gave the place a quite ancient feel.
We operate all through the year if the weather is good enough, so do book up for a winter safari if you fancy a trek out over Christmas!
We were out in the forest on a particularly humid morning and came across this nest of wood ants with all the winged males taking flight to hopefully mate with a queen. There were a few Emperor dragonflies zipping about, enjoying their ant breakfast too!
This is a frequent sight when the temperature and humidity provides the best conditions to emerge from the nest.
We dropped into Tyneham village in the Landy this morning and took the short walk to Worbarrow Bay, which looked absolutely stunning in the Spring sunshine....we could have been on a beach in the tropics.....except the sea temperature is about 7 degrees!😀
Had a great picnic and rounded it off with a bit of beachcombing for sea glass.
