Who Knew that as a young woman the author of Wolf Hall was diagnosed as suffering from “over ambition”? Hilary Mantel suffered terribly from abdominal pain but it was not taken seriously by the medical profession (like many utero-adjacent conditions, sadly). Luckily a psychiatrist was able to diagnose it: she had too much ambition which was causing stress: perhaps she should drop out of law school and work in a dress shop?
