MONOPOLY DAY. AT Kings X Station we find HE FIRST PURPOSE-BUILT GYMNASIUM IN ENGLAND. The German Gymnasium, now a restaurant, got its funding solely from London’s German community. It was built in 1865 for the German Gymnastics Society (established in 1861 by Ernst Ravenstein) and hosted London’s first indoor Olympic Games, back in 1866. To Canterbury, scene in 1170 of turbulent priest Thomas Becket's murder in his Cathedral. In his honour a famous old pub, the Thomas a Becket was where London's favourite boxer trained.
