For those eager to escape the city and discover secret routes around both the capital and the South East, there’s Hidden Tracks Cycling Group. The hyper-local travel company, led by veteran British Cycling coach Charlie Codrington, takes groups of cyclists at all levels of experience on guided, off-road and traffic-free rides both around the city and out of London. Ok, so this is a personal option, BUT the gravel riding around Granada is some of the best I have ever ridden, and as my wife continually reminds me I've ridden a heck of a lot of gravel in my time.

Discover the contrasting faces of London: peaceful parks, ancient and modern architecture side by side along the riverside, the grand ceremonial Mall, Trafalgar Square, winding alleys of the city, Victorian cobblestones and warehouses of Wapping, steel and glass of Canary Wharf, ending in the splendour of Wren’s Old Royal Naval College. The weather forecast is good for Sunday’s When Wren Ride! Join us for a relaxed, easy-paced bike meander from Hampton Court to Greenwich, taking in the sights of central London that you usually whizz past in your busy everyday life.

Enjoy coffee and croissants overlooking the river at Albert Bridge, a feed station St. Paul’s Cathedral and end the ride with a cream tea at the Maritime Museum in Greenwich.

Its all about the trail, never more so than here, an hour of rain will turn a solid, fast path into sticky toffee pudding, it rained, so we escaped back into the 21st century on the road until we had got back on plan and hit the trails again.

And we discovered a narrow gauge railway, just had to stop.
