Fabulous weekend staying at Silver Birch. Weather couldn’t be better, beautiful sunset🌅, feeding the swan and ducks, with lovely reflections from the sun set, and a day trip to Cragside, 25 minute drive from Felmoor Park and the rhododendrons went on forever, stunning. Finished off with a lovely breakfast at Canny Cuppa this morning, a quirky little place just 5 minutes away.

If you are staying at Silver Birch during school holidays and have little ones with you then Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden is a must visit to keep the children entertained. Lots outdoor picnic space where you can settle down with a picnic, and food also available from the on-site cafe. Brilliant day out for all ages.

Check the website for opening times, it’s a great little place and just 10-15 walk through our sister site Bockenfield. You may even see light aircraft’s landing and taking off. Dog friendly too.

I had a little trip up to Alnwick Gardens at the weekend, the Blossom Trees didn’t disappoint. Children had a great time, one of their favourite things was the tour through the Poison Garden, along with the large swing chairs at the blossom orchard.

This is for those who like to knock up a few steps while enjoying the beautiful Northumberland countryside with fabulous views.

2.2km circular woodland walk which is well signposted

Should take 30-40 minutes

Not suitable for wheelchairs due to inclines and uneven surface

Mobility scooters and all-terrain pushchairs should be ok

Lots of plants and wildlife to spot

I've not personally seen snakes here, but the area is known to be home to Adders so keep dogs on leads (especially in warm weather)

This walk is surpisingly not very muddy but toddlers may wish to wear wellies to splash in the streams

No seating along the route

Incline at the start and end - most toddlers and those in good health should manage ok

Beautiful views of the Cheviots and Northumberland Countryside

Free onsite car park - use postcode NE66 4SD and follow the signs

Not very accessible by public transport - Bus 473 stops in Whittingham 1.5 miles North of the woods every 2 hours

Combine with a day at Cragside, Rothbury Riverside Walk & Playground, Edlingham Castle, Alnwick Castle/Garden or Ingram Valley

Anyone for a game of Crazy Golf. Only 10-15 minutes from Felmoor Park, great fun for all the family. Lots of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops in Morpeth so something there for everyone.
